Foyt, Al Unser Sr., \u200dRick Mears and Helio Castroneves), I think I\u2019m \u200bqualified to make this \u2062statement with a certain amount of authority:<\/p>\n<p>NASCAR stinks and is in terminal decline.<\/p>\n<p>I think I\u2019ve proved I\u2019m\u2064 not one of those \u201cthey just\u2064 turn left! I could do that!\u201d or \u201cI only watch for the \u200ccrashes\u201d people. I\u2062 don\u2019t labor under the misapprehension the \u200conly names allowed for drivers are \u201cDale\u201d or \u201cRusty.\u201d In fact, I used to love the sport beyond all \u2063reason for a kid raised in the baseball-crazed New York City\u2064 suburbs. Other kids had Don Mattingly or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/derek-jeter-admits-zero-patience-struggling-mlb-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Derek Jeter<\/a> \u2062posters on their walls; I went\u2063 with Darrell Waltrip.<\/p>\n<p>However, \u200bthe constantly shifting rules of the series have become ever more convoluted without any perceptible benefit. The racing itself has become more\u2063 boring. A playoff \u200csystem has made most of the \u2063regular season\u200b meaningless, \u2063and the drivers have been reduced\u200c to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/twitter-exec-responsible-for-censoring-hunter-biden-story-jumps-ship\/\" title=\"Twitter Exec Responsible for Censoring Hunter Biden Story Jumps Ship\">personality-free<\/a>, self-parodying corporate shills that make parts of \u201cTalladega\u2064 Nights\u201d look like a documentary, not a comedy. (\u201cI just thank the \u2062Lord the Texaco \u2062Havoline Monster\u2062 Energy Lowe\u2019s Home Improvement\u200c Chevrolet \u2062Camaro was running real good today \u2026\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, any fan who watches the sport with any regularity\u2062 knows 1)\u2064 that this is why NASCAR\u200c is in trouble and\u200b 2) \u2064that\u2063 the people running the sport are to blame. To a lawyer that conservative outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/blatantly-illegal-nascar-bans-white-applicants-from-diversity-internship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Wire<\/a> talked to, this sounds \u200c\u201cblatantly\u200c illegal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According\u2062 to David Bernstein,\u2063 a \u2064professor \u2062at George Mason University\u2019s\u200b Antonin Scalia School of Law,\u200c a requirement for a paid \u201cdiversity \u200dinternship\u201d under \u200cthe Drive for Diversity program\u200c that requires an applicant to \u201c[b]e a member of one or more of the following \u2064races\/ethnic minority classifications\u201d \u2014 all of them pretty much anything except \u2064white \u2014 would \u201cseem to violate Title VII and the 1866 Civil Rights\u2064 Act.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cAPPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING \u200bREQUIREMENTS\u201d the requirement list reads before stipulating that applicants must not\u200c be white men.<\/p>\n<p>But despite their discriminatory diversity programs, NASCAR still claims to be an equal opportunity\u2064 employer. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/e54rdYJ5uZ\">pic.twitter.com\/e54rdYJ5uZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Spencer Lindquist  (@SpencerLndqst) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpencerLndqst\/status\/1696158082802356473?\">August \u200d28, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHaving a 100 percent quota for minorities for a position is illegal even under a very generous view of what is allowed,\u201d\u2064 Bernstein said, adding\u200c that \u2062a rejected applicant who\u2062 didn\u2019t fit those qualifications \u2064would \u2062have\u200d standing to sue.<\/p>\n<p>While other Drive for Diversity programs \u2063aren\u2019t quite\u2064 so \u200cexplicit, at\u200b least on the website, \u2062it\u2019s the latest sign that the sport has embraced wokeness \u2014 potentially to\u2064 an illegal degree \u2014 to cure its woes.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Bubba \u200bWallace and all his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bubba-wallace-weighs-rittenhouse-verdict-exactly-expect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">various sociopolitical kerfuffles<\/a> \u2014 most \u2062notably \u2063a\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/noose-controversy-bubba-wallaces-next-act-takes-aim-christian-driver\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report of a \u201cnoose\u201d<\/a> hanging outside\u200b of his \u2063pit garage \u2063in 2020 that was actually a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/flashback-5-social-media-posts-from-lebron-james-that-caused-a-stir\/\" title=\"FLASHBACK: 5 Social Media Posts From LeBron James That Caused A Stir\">garage door pull rope<\/a> that had been there from a previous race and clearly couldn\u2019t have been \u2062targeted at \u200dthe driver \u2014 driver \u200cNoah Gragson \u2063was suspended earlier this month for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/top-nascar-driver-indefinitely-suspended-liking-meme-george-floyd-crab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">liking a George Floyd meme<\/a> that NASCAR officials felt didn\u2019t treat the\u200b Minneapolis man\u2019s death with sufficient \u2062gravity.<\/p>\n<p>Also,\u2063 in 2020, one of the \u200dseries\u2019 top drivers was suspended \u2062for the entire season for \u200dusing a racial slur\u2063 \u2014 the dreaded n-bomb, in fact \u2014 \u200con a gaming livestream.\u200b That suspension was a bit\u200b more justified, I\u2019d say. However, I merely mention it because\u200b the guy who received the suspension \u200cfor\u200b the slur, series \u2063champion Kyle\u200c Larson, is considered the most successful graduate of the \u200bDrive for Diversity program \u2014 having\u200b qualified due to his Asian-American\u2062 background, according\u2064 to\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoweek.com\/racing\/nascar\/a34402897\/diversity-coach-apologies-hold-key-to-kyle-larsons-return-to-nascar-cup-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Autoweek<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Whoops.<\/p>\n<p>Even if this doesn\u2019t get struck \u2064down in court and Drive to Diversity provides a pipeline\u2064 of multiracial, multiethnic,\u2063 multigendered talent, it\u200b still fixes \u200bnothing\u200d that\u2019s wrong \u200dwith the sport.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to \u2063the silly playoff rules, NASCAR has\u200c also introduced \u201csegment wins\u201d in recent years, giving drivers points for \u200dtheir position at certain intervals during the race and making \u200dthe whole\u200d scoring system about as \u2063complicated as flying a Cessna.<\/p>\n<p>Formula One, once considered too \u200cconvoluted for American audiences, has \u2062made inroads\u2064 thanks to\u200b Netflix\u2019s popular \u201cDrive to Survive\u201d documentary \u2062series; \u200bit\u2019s also managed to have a\u200b seven-time black\u200b world champion\u200d in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-hamilton-wins-monaco-gp-to-extend-lead-over-teammate-bottas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lewis\u200b Hamilton<\/a> \u2064 without having to resort to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oracle-internship-scholarship-opportunities-bar-whites-and-asians-on-the-basis-of-race\/\" title=\"Oracle Internship and Scholarships exclude Whites and Asians based on race.\">racially discriminatory internship<\/a> and driver-development programs.<\/p>\n<p>And, unlike every other racing series that gearheads can tune into on any given weekend, NASCAR \u200bseems to have such visceral contempt for \u200dits fan base that it\u2019s willing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nascar-has-a-diversity-internship-that-white-people-are-banned-from-applying-for-blatantly-illegal\/\" title=\"NASCAR's 'Diversity Internship' Excludes White Applicants: Criticized as Unlawful\">potentially\u2064 break anti-discrimination laws<\/a> on \u2063the gamble that it\u2019ll entice \u2063a new \u2062set of \u200cwoke sports watchers to tune in.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, they\u2019re going to notice the same \u2063thing \u2064this lifetime NASCAR watcher has: \u2062No matter what the color, gender or politics of the \u200cdriver in the car may\u200c be, the racing still stinks.
