Allen said that a specific portion of \u2062the documents had\u200d \u201ca twist\u201d that \u201ccould spoil\u201d Trump\u2019s \u200clegal \u2064team\u2019s effort to have the\u2064 entire case moved to federal court, a move that could \u200bpossibly secure him a more favorable jury\u200b (as opposed to the pool \u200bof \u201cmarginalized, underserved\u2063 and disadvantaged\u201d voters he \u200dwould\u200b surely get\u2063 in\u200b Fulton County).<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-703315005\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-78c3815029c6863697f1b64fc8c94c88 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-78c3815029c6863697f1b64fc8c94c88\"><\/div>\n<p>That \u201ctwist\u201d is\u2064 an\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realLizUSA\/status\/1438886054380154884\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">open \u2064letter<\/a> Trump sent to Georgia\u2062 Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger \u200bin\u2063 September 2021, which was after the former president\u200b was\u200b out of office, thus supposedly undercutting the\u2064 Trump team\u2019s assertion that the criminal charges \u2062are purely federal\u2062 in \u2064nature, rather than addressable at \u2062the \u2063county court level. In\u2064 that letter, the\u2064 indictment notes, Trump \u2062solicited Raffensperger to \u201cunlawfully\u201d \u2062undo the 2020 election \u2064outcome \u201cand announce the true winner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s that portion of the indictment <a href=\"https:\/\/int.nyt.com\/data\/documenttools\/georgia-indictment-trump\/daed97d37562a76f\/full.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in full<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>On or\u2063 about the \u206217th day of September 2021, DONALD JOHN TRUMP committed \u200bthe felony offense of SOLICITATION OF VIOLATION OF OATH BY PUBLIC OFFICER, in violation of \u200bO.C.G.A. \u00a7\u00a7 16-4-7 and 16-10-1, in\u2062 Fulton \u200dCounty, Georgia, by\u2064 unlawfully soliciting, requesting, and importuning Georgia \u200bSecretary of State Brad\u200c Raffensperger, a public officer, to engage in conduct constituting \u2062the felony offense of Violation of Oath by Public Officer, O.C.G.A. \u00a7 16-10-1, by \u200bunlawfully \u201cdecertifying the Election, or\u200d whatever the \u200ccorrect \u2063legal \u2063remedy is, and announce the \u2064true \u2064winner,\u201d in willful and intentional violation of the terms of the \u2062oath\u200d of said person \u200cas prescribed by law,\u200c with intent that\u2064 said person engage in said\u2064 conduct. This was an overt act in furtherance of the conspiracy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The New York Times on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/08\/26\/us\/trump-georgia-trial.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Saturday<\/a> also reported the supposed \u2064\u201cEaster \u2064egg,\u201d which the paper said \u201ccould spoil Mr. Trump\u2019s argument that he was intervening\u2063 in the Georgia election \u2063as part\u200b of his duty as \u200ba federal official,\u201d since he was a private\u2064 citizen and not president at\u200d the time that he \u2064published the \u200bletter.<\/p>\n<p>Whether \u200cthis is a federal or local-level issue is beside the point. I didn\u2019t even remember that letter \u2064to Raffensperger, which\u200d was also\u2062 published in a fundraising email put out by \u200cTrump\u2019s Save America \u2063PAC. And because of that\u200c media rule mentioned above, I went back to find exactly what it said. Naturally, what\u2064 it actually said is\u2064 not the way it was portrayed \u2064by the indictment nor\u2062 the \u2064way it was portrayed by \u2062Fani Willis\u2019 fangirls in the media.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2b20a86214723e3f720df054505b6179 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2b20a86214723e3f720df054505b6179\"><\/div>\n<p>The letter said that\u2064 new evidence of \u201cLarge scale Voter Fraud\u201d in Georgia had been reported in a \u200blocal newspaper called the \u2062Georgia Star News, \u2062with <a href=\"https:\/\/georgiastarnews.com\/4300-absentee-ballot-votes-counted-in-dekalb-county-2020-election-violated-chain-of-custody-rule.html?utm_medium=email&#038;utm_source=ncl_amplify&#038;utm_campaign=20210917-letter_to_georgia_secretary_of_state_brad_raffensperger&#038;utm_content=ncl-Y3rMRAmNxW&#038;_nlid=Y3rMRAmNxW&#038;_nsid=ad701379-2406-4127-a950-05b8347ef86e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an attached \u2064article<\/a> claiming that more than 40,000 absentee ballots counted in DeKalb County were improperly tallied because they had not been documented upon\u200b their receipt by the appropriate official, as required by\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-senator-raphael-warnock-under-investigation-for-voter-registration-misconduct-reports\/\" title=\"Democrat Senator Raphael Warnock Under Investigation For Voter Registration Misconduct: Reports\">state election rules<\/a>. \u201cI would respectfully request that your department check this,\u201d Trump wrote in the letter, \u200d\u201cand, if true, \u200dalong with many other\u200c claims of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-ag-barr-authorizes-federal-prosecutors-to-pursue-substantial-allegations-of-voting-irregularities-before-2020-election-is-certified\/\" title=\"BREAKING: AG Barr Authorizes Federal Prosecutors to Pursue \"Substantial Allegations\" of Voting Irregularities Before 2020 Election is Certified\">voter fraud<\/a> and \u200dvoter irregularities, \u200cstart the process of decertifying the Election, \u2063or whatever the correct legal remedy is, and announce the true winner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>None of that context is in the\u200c indictment, nor the Times article, nor the Axios\u200d report. \u200dAnd it\u2019s essentially the same request \u2062from Trump \u2063that he delivered\u2064 in the now infamous \u201cperfect phone call\u201d \u2062he made \u2062to Raffensperger and other Georgia election \u200cofficials in \u2064January 2021.\u2062 <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/this-is-just-a-preview-of-how-the-dishonest-media-will-lie-and-mislead-about-trumps-show-trials\/\" title=\"Preview of media's dishonesty in Trump's show trials.\">media enjoy short-handing<\/a> that hourlong conversation \u200das an effort by Trump to get the secretary of state \u2062to fabricate votes. The New York Times ominously wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/01\/03\/us\/politics\/trump-raffensperger-call-georgia.html#:~:text=The%20Investigation-,Trump%2C%20in%20Taped%20Call%2C%20Pressured%20Georgia%20Official%20to%20'Find,according%20to%20an%20audio%20recording.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">at the time<\/a> that the president \u201cpressured Georgia\u2019s Republican secretary of state to \u2018find\u2019 him enough \u200cvotes to overturn the presidential election and vaguely threatened him with \u2018a criminal offense.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not what \u200dhappened there, either.  In the call, Trump is audibly frustrated nearly to the point of tears, which is\u2064 a little embarrassing for him, but the \u200dpressure amounts to\u2063 asking over\u200b and over again for Raffensperger and Georgia election officials to examine\u200c claims of mass \u200dvoter fraud, which he believes will uncover enough votes in his favor.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-4da4f1ec8dc298f8a7b9036428c21eec fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-4da4f1ec8dc298f8a7b9036428c21eec\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI\u2063 think you have\u2062 to say that you\u2019re going to reexamine \u200dit,\u201d Trump says \u200dto Raffensperger. \u201cAnd\u200b you\u200b can reexamine it, but reexamine it with people that want to\u2064 find answers, not people that don\u2019t want\u2063 to find \u2063answers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, you better check\u200d on the \u200dballots because they \u2062are\u200d shredding ballots, \u2063Ryan,\u201d Trump \u2062says\u200b to \u2064one of Raffensperger\u2019s lawyers. \u2064\u201cI\u2019m \u200djust telling you, Ryan. They\u2019re shredding ballots. And you should look at that very carefully.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At \u2062another point, Trump says, \u201cNo, \u200bthey [all the ballots scanned by a particular poll worker] were 100 percent for Biden\u2014\u00a0100 \u200cpercent. There \u2062wasn\u2019t a Trump vote\u200c in the \u200dwhole \u2062group. \u200cWhy \u200ddon\u2019t you want\u2064 to find this,\u2063 Ryan? What\u2019s wrong with you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u200dcall ends with Trump stating, \u201cWe just want the truth,\u201d which he says is that, \u201cI won by 400,000\u200d votes,\u200d at \u2063least. That\u2019s the real truth. But \u2063we don\u2019t need 400,000 votes. We need less \u200bthan \u20642,000 votes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for\u2063 being \u201cvaguely\u2063 threatened\u201d with a\u200c \u201ccriminal offense,\u201d nobody received a threat. \u200bTrump\u200c said it\u2062 would\u200c be \u2063a \u201ccriminal offense\u201d for election officials, \u200dincluding Raffensperger, to have knowledge of ballot tampering \u200dand not report it. Trump did say he believed there had been ballot tampering but at no point did he say there would \u2063be a prosecution\u200d or that\u200d he had the evidence to back up his claim.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, it\u2019s an uncomfortable conversation to listen to. But let\u2019s not pretend\u200b it\u200c didn\u2019t \u200dfollow an election year \u200cfrom the ninth circle of hell. Trump might have instead tried to plant a false story with\u2064 the FBI about Biden conspiring with a foreign power to fix\u200d the \u2062race \u200dbut everyone\u200d copes with losing in their own way.<\/p>\n<p>In the September 2021\u2063 letter\u2063 to Raffensperger, Trump asked for an investigation. \u200bThat\u2019s no different than what he asked for in \u200bJanuary of\u2062 that\u2062 same year. Nobody would call that criminal behavior.
