she said. &#8220;However, when it leads to misconceptions, that&#8217;s a negative development.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Justice Barrett&#8217;s comments \u2062come at\u2062 a time when the U.S. Supreme Court has made several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/democrats-decry-politicized-supreme-court-resume-push-for-term-limits-5376663\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pro-conservative decisions<\/a> \u2062 that have sparked\u200c controversy and accusations of partisanship from Democrats.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>These decisions include \u2064the\u200d overturning of Roe v. Wade, the \u200crejection of\u2062 the Biden administration&#8217;s push for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-push-for-student-debt-forgiveness-would-cost-taxpayers-millions\/\" title=\"Democrats push for student debt forgiveness, would cost taxpayers millions\">student loan forgiveness<\/a>, and the striking down of race-based admissions in \u2063higher education.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, some Democrats have raised concerns about partisanship in the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<h2>Term Limits<\/h2>\n<p>In \u2062June, Reps. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Don Beyer (D-Va.) reintroduced the &#8220;Supreme Court Term Limits and Regular Appointments Act,&#8221; which aims to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ive-acquired-a-thick-skin-justice-amy-coney-barrett-on-scrutiny-of-supreme-court\/\" title=\"Justice Barrett: I've developed resilience to Supreme Court scrutiny.\">establish 18-year term limits<\/a> for Supreme Court justices.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our Founding Fathers intended for lifetime appointments to \u2063ensure impartiality. However, recent\u200b decisions have\u2062 shown that justices have become partisan and \u200dout of touch with\u200d the \u200cAmerican public,&#8221; said Mr. Khanna in a statement referring \u2064to the\u2064 ruling against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-latest-student-debt-bailout-plan-faces-legal-challenge-from-think-tanks\/\" title=\"Biden's student debt bailout plan challenged by think tanks.\">student debt \u200cforgiveness<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Barrett previously addressed allegations of partisanship \u2062in the Supreme Court during a lecture hosted by the University \u200dof \u200bLouisville&#8217;s McConnell Center in September 2021.<\/p>\n<p>She emphasized that judicial \u2062philosophies should not be equated\u200c with political parties and that criticizing the court&#8217;s reasoning is different from accusing it of acting in a\u200d partisan\u2063 manner.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need to evaluate the court\u200c based on its own\u200c terms,&#8221; she stated.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Barrett has also acknowledged the personal\u200c scrutiny that comes with\u200d her position.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve developed a thick skin, and I believe that&#8217;s something all public figures must do,&#8221; she remarked. &#8220;That&#8217;s what all judges have to do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Public View\u2063 of SCOTUS,\u2062 Partisanship<\/h2>\n<p>Public perception of the U.S. Supreme Court has been \u2062mixed in recent times, according to multiple polls.<\/p>\n<p>A July 21 survey by\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2023\/07\/21\/favorable-views-of-supreme-court-fall-to-historic-low\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pew Research<\/a> found that only 44 percent of\u2064 respondents held a favorable view of the Supreme \u200bCourt, the lowest level since 1987. (Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>About 51 percent\u200b of Americans believe the Supreme Court\u200d has the right \u200bamount of power, while 4 in 10 think it has too much power. Only 7 percent believe it has too little \u200dpower, according\u2063 to a Pew Research Center report.<\/p>\n<p>A July 10 <a href=\"https:\/\/today.yougov.com\/topics\/politics\/articles-reports\/2023\/07\/10\/how-americans-evaluate-supreme-court-and-rulings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">poll<\/a> by YouGov \u2062found that although trust in the Supreme Court has declined, \u200cit remains more trusted than Congress. While 45 percent of respondents expressed trust in the\u200c judicial branch, only 42 percent trusted the executive branch, and just\u2063 34 percent trusted the legislative\u200c branch.<\/p>\n<p>Over 50 percent of Americans believe the Supreme Court should have\u2062 the power to invalidate any law it deems \u2064unconstitutional. Among Democrats, only 34 percent share this view, while 51 percent of independents and 73 percent of Republicans agree.<\/p>\n<p>The YouGov poll also revealed that 73 percent of Democrats perceive the Supreme Court as more conservative than the general public, up \u200cfrom 61 percent in March. On \u200bthe other hand, 48 percent of Republicans believe the court&#8217;s opinions align with\u200b the general \u200cpublic, up from \u206432 percent in March.<\/p>\n<p>When reintroducing the &#8220;Supreme Court Term Limits\u2064 and \u200bRegular Appointments\u200c Act&#8221; in June, Mr. Beyer stated\u2064 that &#8220;recent partisan decisions by the Supreme Court that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-push-bill-to-place-term-limits-on-supreme-court-justices\/\" title=\"Democrats propose bill for term limits on Supreme Court Justices.\">destroyed historic protections<\/a> for reproductive rights, voting rights,\u2062 and\u200c more have undermined public trust in the Court.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However,<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>individual justices were before,&#8221; Barrett said. She acknowledged that this increased visibility brings both benefits and challenges. Barrett emphasized the importance of maintaining the court&#8217;s independence and impartiality despite the heightened scrutiny.
