He \u2064sustained a gunshot wound to the \u2062hip and\u200c endured extensive hospitalizations, multiple surgeries, and painful rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>The congressman explained that the cancer diagnosis came after he had been feeling unwell for the \u2064past week. Blood tests revealed irregularities, leading\u200c to further\u2062 screening and the\u200c subsequent diagnosis of multiple\u200d myeloma.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have \u200dnow begun treatment, \u2062which will continue \u2063for the \u200cnext \u200dseveral months,&#8221; Scalise stated. &#8220;I expect to\u2062 work through \u200bthis period \u200band intend to return to Washington, continuing \u200bmy \u200bwork as\u2062 Majority Leader and serving the people of Louisiana&#8217;s\u200d First Congressional District.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">After a \u200cfew days of not feeling like myself this past week, I had some blood work done.
