In 2017, he was \u2064seriously wounded\u2062 during a \u2063shooting at a congressional \u200bbaseball practice but managed\u200c to recover and continue his congressional duties. He even participated in future Congressional Baseball Games.<\/p>\n<p>Following Scalise&#8217;s cancer diagnosis, he received an outpouring of support from fellow lawmakers and others on Twitter. House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) praised Scalise&#8217;s strength and resolve, expressing\u200c confidence in his ability\u2062 to overcome this new battle.
