The individuals associated with Chinese law enforcement were found to be connected to Spamouflage.<\/p>\n<h3>Targeting Multiple Audiences<\/h3>\n<p>Although the operation originated in China, its targets included Taiwan, the United States, Australia, Britain, Japan, and other Chinese-speaking audiences. The pages associated \u2064with\u200b the group \u2062were taken down due to violating Meta&#8217;s rules on coordinated deceptive behavior.<\/p>\n<h3>A Network of Deception<\/h3>\n<p>Despite its extensive reach, the Spamouflage network received minimal\u200c attention, with \u200bonly a few comments challenging its claims. It was discovered that the network had acquired approximately 560,000 accounts for its Facebook pages,\u200b but Meta suspects that these accounts were primarily\u200d fake and purchased from spam operators in Vietnam and Bangladesh.<\/p>\n<h3>Learning from Each Other<\/h3>\n<p>Interestingly, some of the tactics used by\u200d the Spamouflage network resembled those of a Russian online deception network exposed in 2019. This suggests that countries like China and Russia\u200d may be learning from each other in their covert influence\u200d operations.<\/p>\n<p>Meta also highlighted its analysis of the Russian influence campaign known as Doppelganger, which aimed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/meta-unveils-covert-china-driven-spamouflage-operation-to-undermine-united-states\/\" title=\"Meta exposes secret Chinese 'spamouflage' campaign to undermine US.\">mimic news \u200csources&#8217; websites<\/a>.
