In 2020, he engaged in a consensual\u200b sexual \u200crelationship with a\u200c fellow \u2064student \u200dnamed Abigail Masters, which lasted from March to\u2062 June of that year.<\/p>\n<p>Text messages exchanged between\u2063 Steele and Masters during their relationship revealed that their encounters were consensual. However, Masters later accused Steele of nonconsensual behavior \u200cand became upset when he didn&#8217;t\u200d respond enthusiastically to \u2064her \u200drequests for more sexual encounters.<\/p>\n<p>In a shocking turn of events,\u200c Masters even threatened to expose their affair to Steele&#8217;s other \u200cromantic partner if he \u2064didn&#8217;t comply with her demands. She followed through on this threat by driving past his apartment late at night.<\/p>\n<p>After their final sexual encounter, Masters\u200c continued to pressure Steele for more\u2064 sexual\u200c activity. When he didn&#8217;t comply, she reported him to Pacific administrators, accusing him\u2063 of physical and sexual\u2062 assault. This accusation\u2062 set \u200doff a chain of events that\u200b ultimately led to Steele&#8217;s removal\u200b from the\u2062 graduate \u2064program.<\/p>\n<p>Steele was completely unaware of the allegations against\u200c him until July 2, 2020,\u200d when he received an email from the \u2062program&#8217;s\u2062 director, \u200cDr.\u200d Jennifer Clark, requesting a meeting. During the meeting, Steele was informed\u2062 of \u2062the complaint but was given \u2064no details about the \u2063specific allegations or the process that would be followed to resolve the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Pacific University&#8217;s own policies required them to\u200d provide Steele with notice of \u2062the\u200b accusations, \u2062information about the investigation \u200bprocedure, and a fair opportunity to defend himself. However, throughout the entire ordeal, Steele was denied\u2062 these basic rights.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Steele&#8217;s repeated attempts to\u2063 seek information about the complaint, Pacific administrators remained\u200c unresponsive. Steele maintained that he had\u2063 disclosed his misdemeanor \u200cconviction and had even informed program\u2064 director Clark about it.<\/p>\n<p>Feeling that\u200b he had been\u2064 treated unfairly throughout the entire process, Steele filed a lawsuit\u200c against Pacific University.
