I was able\u2064 to\u200d literally, not \u200dfiguratively, talk Strom Thurmond into voting\u2064 for the Civil Rights Act before he died, and I thought, \u2018Well maybe there\u2019s real progress,\u2019 But hate never dies. It just hides, it hides under the rocks.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Thurmond had left the Democrat party to\u2062 join the Republicans in September 1964\u200c saying that the \u200dDemocrats had \u201cabandoned the people\u201d and that the party had moved away from following the United States\u2064 Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Thurmond had filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1957 for 24 \u2064hours and\u200c 18 minutes, making it the longest filibuster for any Senator in chamber history.<\/p>\n<p>The Civil Rights Act later passed the Senate in June \u200bof 1964, despite Thurmond voting against it, and eight years before Biden, who was 21 at the time, had won his first senate seat.<\/p>\n<p>In an attempt to explain the latest \u200cblunder \u2062by the \u200bpresident,\u200b a White House spokesperson\u200d later \u200ctold Fox News that \u2064Biden had \u200cbeen \u201cinstrumental in getting Thurmond\u2019s \u2063vote for the Voting Rights Act, in 1980.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similar claims \u2064from Biden are now a common occurrence. The most repeated claim by\u200c the president is that his son Beau had died in Iraq, even though he had died of brain cancer in\u200b the U.S. after \u200dhis service in Iraq.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cI say this as a father \u2064of \u200ca man who\u200b won\u200c the \u2062Bronze Star,\u200c the\u2063 conspicuous service medal, and lost his life\u200d in Iraq,\u201d Biden\u200c had said in 2022 while giving a speech in Colorado to designate Camp Hale\u2062 as a \u2064national monument.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He repeated \u2062the\u2063 same claim\u2063 about his son while visit with troops \u2063at \u200cMarine Corps Air State Iwakuni in Japan, while visiting with the survivors\u200b of the\u200b bombing that took place during \u200cthe Afghanistan withdrawal and while visiting the Gold Star families as well.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cMy son was a \u2063major in the \u200bU.S. Army.
