What should be a straightforward exercise in setting high <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/how-the-pta-sold-out-parents-for-politics-during-schools-biggest-crisis\/\" title=\"How The PTA Sold Out Parents For Politics During Schools\u2019 Biggest Crisis\">academic standards<\/a> has devolved, in several states, into a free-for-all of cramming \u2063woke nonsense \u2062into every corner of curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>These frameworks tell school districts and\u2064 teachers what students ought to learn and when they ought\u200d to learn it. For instance, a state education authority might decide that students should know enough about America to \u2064name the president and vice president in second grade, explain the three branches of government in fifth grade, and explain how a bill becomes a \u2063law in eighth grade. Sadly, the latest batch of education plans are so full \u200cof politics that actual learning loses out.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>For instance, California\u2019s new math \u2063framework <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/california-approves-new-math-guidelines-encourage-teaching-toward-social-justice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">encourages<\/a> \u201cteaching toward social justice.\u201d\u2062 Sample classroom activities \u200cinclude \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/07\/16\/progressives-war-on-teaching-math-conquers-california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">math identity rainbows<\/a>,\u201d in which students choose colors that represent their individual strengths to create an image of a \u201cmathematical community.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The\u2063 math plan\u200c prioritizes equity over, well, math to such\u2064 an extent that academia has \u200dtaken action. As the framework was being crafted, more than 1,700 academics in the STEM fields signed an\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/view\/k12mathmatters\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">open letter<\/a> \u2063decrying the lack of options for advanced\u2063 students to \u200creceive\u2063 advanced math instruction. Their letter also laments the setting aside of algebra and geometry, expressing concern that students will arrive at college ill-prepared to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-education-standards-force-gay-history-climate-alarmism-and-math-identity-rainbows-on-students\/\" title=\"New education standards include LGBTQ+ history, climate awareness, and diverse math perspectives.\">handle post-secondary mathematics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>New Jersey is currently \u2062considering new English language arts and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-morning-wire-fallout-of-afghanistan-troop-withdrawal-apples-new-privacy-concerns-the-return-to-in-person-schooling\/\" title=\"The Morning Wire: Fallout Of Afghanistan Troop Withdrawal, Apple\u2019s New Privacy Concerns, The Return To In-Person Schooling\">math standards<\/a> that indoctrinate children about climate\u2062 change for\u200b the purpose\u2062 of spurring leftist activism. \u2063The standards declare that the rising generation of New\u200c Jerseyans must have the skills to \u201ccreate alternate discourses to change the present \u200cand shape the \u200dfuture.\u201d If the end goal were not obvious enough, the standards also demand \u200cthat\u200c teachers help students \u201cbecome \u200binvolved in \u2063the\u2062 issues of\u200b our age, which \u2062include climate change \u200dand environmental justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Massachusetts, too, has an objectionable framework, this one for health. Its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doe.mass.edu\/frameworks\/health\/2023-07-health-draft.pdf?sm_guid=NjE0NjAxfDYzNTc0Mjg2fC0xfG13ZGVlaGFuQGdtYWlsLmNvbXw2MDgwNjAwfHwwfDB8MTY4OTc4ODAyfDEwODF8MHwwfHw2MDc1MDd8MA2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">draft \u200bstandards<\/a> would have \u2064<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/illinois-public-schools-opt-out-of-left-wing-sex-ed-standards\/\" title=\"Illinois Public Schools Opt Out Of Left-Wing Sex Ed Standards\">middle schoolers learn<\/a> the difference between sex and so<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/brett-favre-blasts-olympics-allowing-trans-athletes-to-compete-against-women-its-a-man-competing-as-a-woman\/\" title=\"Brett Favre Blasts Olympics Allowing Trans Athletes To Compete Against Women: \u2018It\u2019s A Man Competing As A Woman\u2019\">-called gender identity<\/a>. The document describes sex as \u201cassigned\u201d rather than\u200c biological, implying \u200bthat sex is not intrinsic but grafted onto a person\u2019s identity\u2063 when the doctor says, \u201cIt\u2019s a boy!\u201d or \u201cIt\u2019s a girl!\u201d \u200din the delivery room. Parents have the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/local\/boston\/2023\/07\/05\/massachusetts-sex-ed-curriculum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">right<\/a> to opt their children out of sex ed lessons, but\u200d \u201cplease don\u2019t indoctrinate\u2064 my\u2062 child\u201d is not a\u2064 special favor parents should \u200dhave to ask for \u2062from the government. It should be the norm.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Perhaps \u200dno subject is so ripe for\u200c the cultural revolution as\u200c history. D.C.\u2019s newly adopted standards inflict far-left politics on the\u200d capital city\u2019s young minds. Students will <a href=\"https:\/\/osse.dc.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/dc\/sites\/osse\/page_content\/attachments\/Adopted%20Standards.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">learn<\/a> \u201chistories of same-sex relationships\u201d in second grade and \u200dthe history of the \u201cLatinx\u200b resistance\u201d movement in America in fifth. The standards call for detailed instruction on many historical evils; the word \u2064\u201cresistance\u201d appears at least 40 times in the new document. But other historical evils are \u200bnearly ignored; the word\u2064 \u201ccommunism\u201d or \u201ccommunist\u201d appears only eight times;\u200b \u201csocialism\u201d appears four\u200b times, and \u201cNazism\u201d appears twice. Eighth graders will soon\u2063 be able to take an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/osse.dc.gov\/release\/osse-adopts-new-social-studies-standards-district-columbia-students\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Action Civics<\/a>\u201d course \u2064\u2014 a topic that trains students to be activists for leftist causes.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The processes for creating these documents are years-long and \u2063deliberative, as they should be, but those traits also make such processes incredibly opaque. Most people never think \u200babout statewide educational frameworks. Public education bureaucrats like it \u200bthat way.<\/p>\n<p>Most parents have \u200cno idea what \u200ban educational framework is or what it means for their \u200bstudents. They should not have to understand the intricacies of curricular frameworks any more than one who flips on a \u200clight switch should need to know how electric circuits work. \u200cSchools should provide a decent education \u2064just\u200c like a light switch should turn on a light. But public education has blown a fuse, and now it\u2019s on all of us to look at \u2064the wiring to fix the problems.<\/p>\n<p>When parents find out what\u2019s in the \u2063curriculum,\u200c many are justifiably unhappy with the content. Pennsylvania parents and educators are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/article\/the-other-crt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suing<\/a> the state\u2019s education authority over its \u201cculturally responsive teaching\u201d guidelines, which \u200cinstructed teachers to\u2063 \u201cbelieve and\u2063 acknowledge that microaggressions are real.\u201d \u200cThat\u2019s right, the\u200d state Department of Education is\u200b telling teachers exactly what to believe and \u200bto share that belief \u2064with\u2062 students. Ideas this \u200drotten should \u200cnever make it past the\u2064 drafting table, but they become academic standards thanks\u2063 to activist education bureaucrats.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200b ideal solution is,\u2064 first, to stop \u200bthese frameworks before \u200cthey are enacted\u200c by ensuring that people in positions of power prioritize student learning over their attempts to hijack education in service of their extreme ideologies. Next, parents should\u2063 have \u2064total transparency around \u200bschool\u200c curriculum and \u2064the \u2063freedom to choose where their \u200cchild will \u2062learn. If public\u2063 schools are going to be crammed full of indoctrination at the expense of real learning, parents deserve to be able\u2064 to send their children to places that have their priorities straight.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During summer break, while schools closed, state education departments diligently developed new curricular frameworks.
