\u2063a credit to everyone involved that we were\u2062 able\u2063 to get 20 patients from an \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-marine-corps-identifies-three-marines-killed-during-australia-training-exercise\/\" title=\"Three US Marines killed in Australia training exercise identified by Marine Corps.\">extremely remote location<\/a> on an island into \u200bour tertiary hospital within a matter of hours,\u201d \u2064she\u2062 said.<\/p>\n<p>This tragic \u200bincident resulted in the loss of Captain Eleanor\u2062 LeBeau at 29 years old, Corporal Spencer Collart at\u2064 21 years old, and\u200d Major Tobin Lewis at 37 years old.<\/p>\n<p>The Osprey that crashed on Aug. 27 was \u200bone of two that was being flown from Darwin to Melville as part of Exercise Predators Run, an exercise involving the militaries of the United States,\u2064 Australia,\u2063 Indonesia, the Philippines, and East Timor.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Remarkable Death Toll Was Not Higher<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>While the cause of the crash is yet to be\u2062 revealed, Northern Territory Police Commissioner Michael Murphy noted that \u200dto have twenty survivors from the crash was\u2064 incredible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor\u200b a chopper that crashes and catches fire, to have 20 Marines that are\u200c surviving, I think that\u2019s an incredible outcome\u201d\u200c and emergency\u2064 services were \u200csurprised that \u2064the death toll \u200cwas \u200bnot higher,&#8221; he \u2062said.<\/p>\n<p>Australian Defence Minister Richard \u200bMarles also remarked \u2063on the amount of survivors saying it was \u200bremarkable, &#8220;in many ways, so \u200dmany have survived\u2026this remains a very tragic incident, and \u200bthe loss of those\u2064 lives are keenly \u2064felt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Defence Secretary \u2064Lloyd Austin has also\u200c paid tribute to \u2062the Marines who died in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-this-average-american-is-voting-for-donald-trump\/\" title=\"Why This Average American Is Voting for Donald Trump\">social media post<\/a> about the crash on X\u200d (formerly known as Twitter).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We tragically lost service\u200d members during a training exercise in Australia,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese Marines\u2062 served our country with courage and pride, and my\u200b thoughts and prayers are with their families today, with the other troops who were injured\u200d in the crash,\u2064 and with the entire USMC family.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"mb-4\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Osprey \u2062Aircraft Involved in\u200d Crash\u2019s Poor Safety\u2062 Record<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Osprey aircraft has\u200b long been a controversial capability for the U.S. defence forces due to its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/memo-reveals-state-department-assessed-in-early-2020-that-lab-leak-was-most-likely-origin-of-covid\/\" title=\"Memo Reveals State Department Assessed in Early 2020 That Lab Leak Was Most Likely Origin of COVID\">poor safety record<\/a> and multiple \u200caccidents.<\/p>\n<p>Dubbed &#8220;The Widowmaker&#8221; on account of\u200d its safety record,\u2064 since 1992, the \u200dV-22 Osprey \u2062has\u2064 been involved in 15 accidents, 10 of which have been fatal, resulting in 53 fatalities.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent\u200d Osprey aircraft crash prior\u200d to the Melville Island crash\u200c on Aug. 27 occurred in June 2022\u200c in California\u200b and \u200cresulted \u200bin five fatalities; the \u200ccause of the crash was put down to mechanical failure.<\/p>\n<p>The Melville Island crash \u2064also wasn\u2019t the first crash that has occurred with the Osprey in Australia, with \u2064a crash in August 2017 \u200boff the coast of Rockhampton also responsible for the death of another three marines.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is the Osprey, and What Are Its Issues?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Osprey aircraft is a dual-piloted, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/osprey-aircrafts-poor-safety-record-exposed-in-us-marine-crash-as-search-for-bodies-continues\/\" title=\"Osprey Aircraft's safety issues revealed in US Marine crash as search for bodies persists.\">multi-engine \u200btilt-rotor \u200caircraft<\/a> \u2064with the\u200c capability to execute vertical\u200b take-offs, \u2064hovers, and helicopter-like landings.<\/p>\n<p>While in flight, it holds the\u2062 ability to reposition its propellers horizontally, allowing it to fly like an airplane.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The hunt persists for the bodies of three U.S. marines who perished in the V-22 Osprey crash on Melville Island, near Darwin.
