To date, Dr. Berne\u2019s has received 2 reports of adverse\u2063 events related to this recall,\u201d \u2063the\u200d notice \u200bsaid.<\/p>\n<p>The company is\u2063 notifying all distributors and customers by email and arranging for the \u2064return of the recalled products. Those\u2063 who have bought the products\u200c have been\u2063 asked \u2063to\u2063 stop \u200busing them\u2062 and return\u200d the items to Sun Star Organics, 988 Main Street, Orange, \u2064CA 92867.<\/p>\n<p>The recall notice includes images of \u200cthe products \u2064being withdrawn.<\/p>\n<p>The recall comes a few days after the FDA issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/drug-safety-and-availability\/fda-warns-consumers-not-purchase-or-use-certain-methylsulfonylmethane-msm-eye-drops-due\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warning<\/a> \u200b asking consumers\u2063 not to\u2062 buy and to \u201cimmediately\u2064 stop\u201d using two eye drop products\u2014Dr. Berne\u2019s MSM Drops 5% Solution and LightEyez MSM Eye Drops.<\/p>\n<p>The products contain methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)\u2062 as an active ingredient. The items are \u201cunapproved \u200bdrugs and illegally marketed\u201d in the\u2063 United States, the agency said. \u201cThere are no legally marketed ophthalmic drugs that contain MSM as an active ingredient,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Testing of the products revealed that they were \u201ccontaminated with microbes and were not sterile,\u201d it stated.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Berne\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/eye-drops-recalled-following-reports-of-injury\/\" title=\"Eye Drops Recalled Following Reports of Injury\">eye drops recall<\/a> is the latest in a series of similar recalls done by other manufacturers in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>On Feb. 2, Global Pharma\u200d Healthcare <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/safety\/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts\/global-pharma-healthcare-issues-voluntary-nationwide-recall-artificial-tears-lubricant-eye-drops-due\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recalled<\/a> \u2063 all lots of \u2062their Artificial Tears Lubricant Eye \u2062Drops due to potential \u2064contamination. \u200bThe product was being \u2064distributed by EzriCare \u200cLLC and Delsam Pharma.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200bU.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u200d (CDC) had \u2063alerted the FDA\u2062 about an investigation into a multi-state outbreak of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria possibly linked to the\u2062 product.<\/p>\n<p>On March 1, Apotex Corp. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/safety\/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts\/apotex-corp-issues-voluntary-nationwide-recall-brimonidine-tartrate-ophthalmic-solution-015-due\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recalled<\/a> six lots \u2063of its Brimonidine\u200b Tartrate Ophthalmic \u200bSolution, 0.15% eye drops. Some of\u2064 the unit caps of\u200d the bottles\u200b had cracked,\u2062 thus posing a risk of contamination. \u200bA\u200d few\u2062 days later on March 3, Pharmedica USA LLC \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/safety\/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts\/pharmedica-usa-llc-issues-voluntary-worldwide-recall-purely-soothing-15-msm-drops-due-non-sterility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recalled<\/a> \u2063two lots of Purely Soothing, 15% MSM \u200bDrops due to \u201cnon-sterility.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>CDC Investigation<\/h2>\n<p>In May, the CDC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/hai\/outbreaks\/CRPA-artificial-tears.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> about\u2064 the outbreak of \u201can extensively\u2064 drug-resistant strain of Pseudomonas \u2064aeruginosa.\u201d The strain \u2063had never \u200bbefore been \u200creported in\u2062 the United States\u200b prior to this outbreak, the \u200cagency \u2063stated. By\u2064 May 15, the CDC had identified \u200b81\u2064 patients in 18 American states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPatients reported over 10 different brands of artificial tears, and \u200csome patients \u2063used multiple\u2063 brands. EzriCare\u200b Artificial Tears, a preservative-free, over-the-counter product packaged in multidose bottles,\u200c was the brand most commonly reported. This was the only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/life-threatening-infection-fda-recalls-eye-drops-over-bacterial-fungi-contamination\/\" title=\"FDA recalls eye drops due to bacterial and fungal contamination, posing life-threatening infection risk.\">common artificial tears\u200c product identified<\/a> across the four healthcare facility \u200bclusters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u2062 CDC warned that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/scientists-successfully-test-drug-that-can-kill-cancer-cells-without-damaging-nearby-healthy-tissue\/\" title=\"Scientists Successfully Test Drug That Can Kill Cancer Cells Without Damaging Nearby Healthy Tissue\">drug-resistant bacteria<\/a> was capable \u2063of spreading among people who have not used eye drops.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bacteria can spread\u200b when\u2062 one patient carrying\u200d the \u200bbacteria \u2064exposes\u2063 another patient, or when \u200cpatients touch common items or when healthcare \u2063workers transmit the\u200c germs which is why \u2064infection control, like hand hygiene,\u2062 is so \u200bimportant,\u201d the agency <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2023\/04\/03\/health\/eye-drops-bacteria-fda-inspection\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> CNN.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC asked patients who have used EzriCare or Delsam Pharma\u2019s Artificial Tears and see signs or symptoms of eye infection to\u2064 immediately seek medical care.<\/p>\n<p>Some \u200bof\u2063 the symptoms include yellow, green, or clear \u200bdischarge \u2063from the eye; redness of the eye; blurry vision; a foreign body sensation in the eye; and increased sensitivity to light.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200b CDC advised healthcare facilities\u200d to discontinue\u200c the use of\u2062 these products \u2064and \u200binstruct patients using them to do the \u2064same.<\/p>\n<h2>Buying Eye Drops<\/h2>\n<p>Eye drops are an important part of eye care for Americans. \u200bAccording to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/285907\/usage-of-eye-drops-and-eye-wash-in-the-us-trend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data<\/a> from Statista,\u2062 117.45 million U.S. citizens used eye drops and eye wash in\u2063 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Eye \u200ddrops are\u200c used for\u200c various purposes, including relieving dryness or redness in the\u2063 eye,\u200d soothing itchiness and other irritation caused due to reactions to allergens, and treating infections among \u200dothers.<\/p>\n<p>Experts <\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The FDA has recalled eye drop products made by Dr. Berne&#8217;s Whole Health Products due to contamination concerns.
