Gathering on the National Mall, they listened as the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.\u2063 gave his famous &#8220;I Have\u200d a Dream Speech,&#8221; which\u2062 altered the course of the Civil Rights Movement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In describing his dream\u2064 for us all, Dr. King spoke of redeeming the &#8216;promissory note to which every American was to fall heir&#8217; derived\u2064 from the very idea of America\u2014we are all created equal and deserve to be treated equally throughout our lives,&#8221; President Biden wrote on Aug. 27 \u200din an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2023\/08\/27\/joe-biden-king-march-on-washington-jobs-freedom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">op-ed<\/a> to The Washington Post.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While we\u2019ve never fully lived up to that promise as a nation, we\u200b have never fully walked away from it, either. Each day of \u200bthe Biden-Harris administration, we continue the march forward.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The March on \u2064Washington marked the culmination of years of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nba-will-retire-bill-russells-no-6-all-across-the-league\/\" title=\"NBA Will Retire Bill Russell\u2019s No. 6 All Across The League\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sidney-powell-is-an-american-legal-giant\/\" title=\"Sidney Powell Is an American Legal Giant\">civil rights<\/a> activism<\/a> and \u2062helped \u2062generate support for the Civil \u2063Rights Act of 1964 as well as the \u2062Voting Rights Act of 1965.<\/p>\n<p>On the same day of the march, President John F. Kennedy met with\u2063 ten of the march\u2019s leaders at the White House and\u2064 issued a statement promising to continue pushing for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/black-lives-matter-curriculum-is-bludgeoning-black-history-month\/\" title=\"Black Lives Matter Curriculum Is Bludgeoning Black History Month\">civil rights legislation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier that summer, President Kennedy requested the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lawyerscommittee.org\/lawyers-committee-for-civil-rights-under-law-founding-commemorated-on-national-mall-during-march-on-washington-60th-anniversary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">establishment<\/a> \u200c of \u2062the Lawyers&#8217; Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to help <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-meets-kings-family-civil-rights-leaders-on-60th-anniversary-of-march-on-washington\/\" title=\"Biden meets King's family, civil rights leaders on March on Washington's 60th anniversary.\">lead\u2062 legal advocacy activities<\/a> \u2062in support of the advancement \u2063of civil rights\u200d for black people.<\/p>\n<p>In the evening, President Biden also hosted a \u200creception to mark the 60th anniversary\u2062 of the Lawyers&#8217; Committee\u200d for \u200bCivil Rights Under Law&#8217;s\u200b founding.<\/p>\n<p>The president expressed his concerns about racism and incidents of hate crimes\u2063 in the country during his speech at the \u200dreception.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On Saturday morning, the nation observed the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington. By the evening, a white gunman in Jacksonville,\u2062 Florida, reportedly driven by racial animus, went on a shooting rampage,&#8221; President Biden said, referring to a shooting in Jacksonville that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/jacksonville-sheriff-identifies-dollar-general-shooter-who-left-racist-manifesto-5481718\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">killed three people<\/a> at a Dollar General store \u2063on Aug. 26.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;White supremacy is a poison,&#8221; the president added. &#8220;Silence is complicity. And we&#8217;re not going to \u200cremain silent.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On\u200c the weekend, thousands gathered at the Lincoln Memorial to commemorate the 60th\u2064 anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As we march \u200cin commemoration of\u2063 the original March on Washington, we must never forget the challenges that our leaders \u2062faced then, the hatred that they endured, and the courage, resilience, and hope they displayed against seemingly\u200d insurmountable odds,&#8221; President Biden concluded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Joe Biden welcomed the family of Rev.
