The lawmakers have \u200dsent\u2063 a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, requesting\u200c documents that outline the scope of the investigation led by U.S. Attorney David\u200c Weiss.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe Department pulled punches \u200din this investigation, handicapping veteran \u200binvestigators and\u2062 preventing them from freely pursuing the\u2063 facts,\u201d the letter said. \u201cThe Department agreed to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-demand-scope-docs-from-special-counsel-probe-into-hunter-biden\/\" title=\"House Republicans request documents related to Special Counsel's investigation into Hunter Biden.\">apparently unprecedented plea deal<\/a> with Hunter Biden after his attorneys threatened to call his father, President Biden, \u200cas a witness in the case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow you have\u2062 appointed as special counsel an individual who oversaw all the investigation\u2019s irregularities, who spent the past \u2063two months claiming that he did not need <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-told-agent-who-confirmed-whistleblower-testimony-to-decline-to-respond-to-questions\/\" title=\"FBI instructed agent to not answer questions confirming whistleblower testimony.\">special \u200bcounsel status<\/a>, and who was responsible for the \u200bplea agreement\u2063 that collapsed in court \u2063and is widely viewed as an embarrassment for the Department,\u201d the letter added. \u201cIn light of Mr. Weiss\u2019s record leading this investigation, \u200bwe have concerns with his appointment as special counsel.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The letter specifically requests two types of \u2064records:\u2064 all\u200d documents\u2062 and communications related to David Weiss&#8217;s appointment as special counsel, and any additional scope memoranda, directives, or \u200dinstructions from the Office of\u200b the Attorney General regarding Weiss&#8217;s appointment. The deadline for the requested documents is September 11.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2064 lawmakers, including Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, Oversight Chairman James Comer, and Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith, aim\u200b to use\u200c the \u2064obtained records to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gop-to-use-power-of-the-purse-against-fbi-rep-jim-jordan\/\" title=\"GOP to Use \u2018Power of the Purse\u2019 Against FBI: Rep. Jim Jordan\">inform potential legislative reforms<\/a> and advance their oversight.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Justice (DOJ) has acknowledged receiving the letter but declined \u2062to \u2062comment further. DOJ leaders have \u2064previously defended the investigation against claims of politicization.
