The state also takes issue with school \u2062districts threatening home visits or reporting information about students&#8217; living\u200d conditions if they cannot prove their residency with a formal lease.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;These\u200b discriminatory policies \u2062harm our most vulnerable students, who rely on our \u2064schools for a safe, nurturing\u2063 environment where they can learn and \u200cthrive,&#8221;\u2063 James and Rosa emphasized.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The letter \u2063warns\u200d all\u2062 New York school districts with\u2064 such\u200b policies to immediately remove \u200bthem from their websites and \u200ccease enforcing them. According to the state, public schools must enroll migrant children and homeless children immediately,\u200c even\u200d if they cannot provide proof of residency,\u2063 immunization records, or \u2063other usual enrollment documents.
