That\u2019s the \u2064confirmed\u200c policy of the \u2063bakery\u2062 chain Reem\u2019s. One of our officers was denied service last weekend\u200d because he was in \u2063uniform. Reem\u2019s confirms that they \u200cwill not serve \u2063anyone armed and in uniform. Presumably, this includes\u200d members of the\u2063 US \u2062Military,\u201d the police group posted\u200b on X.<\/p>\n<p>In a second post, the union \u2063added, \u201cWe are not asking Reem\u2019s or any business with a bigoted policy to serve our officers.\u2062 We\u2019re\u200d asking them to own their discriminatory policy &#038; and put up a sign so we \u200cknow not to spend money in your establishment \u2014 on or off duty. We took the liberty\u200d of designing one for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">We are not asking Reem\u2019s or any business with a bigoted\u200c policy to serve our \u200dofficers. We \u200dtook the \u2063liberty of designing one for them. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/aITQFLOFG0\">pic.twitter.com\/aITQFLOFG0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u2064 San Francisco POA (@SanFranciscoPOA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SanFranciscoPOA\/status\/1694837004373217427?\">August\u2062 24, \u200c2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In a statement sent to \u2063the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/bayarea\/article\/sf-police-union-reems-bakery-denied-service-to-cop-18330669.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Francisco Chronicle<\/a> \u2063and posted to \u2062social \u200dmedia Friday, Reem\u2019s attempted to explain \u2064its position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReem\u2019s has a \u200cdeep commitment\u2064 to \u2064uplifting social\u200b and racial justice \u2062in \u2062our communities,\u201d the bakery blathered. \u201cThis includes fostering\u200c an environment of safety for \u2063our staff and customers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a time\u200b of increased \u200bgun violence \u2014 particularly impacting people of color, youth, and queer people \u2014 we believe that\u200b maintaining a strict policy \u200bof prohibiting guns in our restaurant keeps us safer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany members of our community have been\u2064 impacted by gun violence, \u200dwhether that be an experience on the streets of San Francisco or Oakland, having come\u2064 from war or occupation, or having increased \u200bfear due to a \u2063growing\u2063 climate of political extremism,\u201d the \u2064statement continued, \u2064without any \u200bindication of\u200c what it meant by \u201cpolitical extremism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll too often, Black and brown people, and \u200dpoor people\u200b are the victims of this violence,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt \u200dReems, we aim to provide a\u2062 space where\u200c people\u200d can eat delicious Arab food and work together to strengthen our community, \u200cwithout\u200b fear of violence or harassment. Did \u200dyou notice the bakery did not say police officers are welcome?<\/p>\n<p>San Francisco Police Officers Association\u2062 President Tracy McCray told the Chronicle the\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/san-francisco-bakery-bans-serving-cops-in-uniform-as-city-crumbles-from-crime\/\" title=\"SF Bakery Bans Serving Cops in Uniform as City Crumbles from Crime\">policy specifically \u2064targeted armed \u2063officers<\/a> in uniform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is exactly\u2064 what they said\u200c their policy was. That is \u2063what their employee told \u2062our officer,\u201d McCray \u200btold\u2062 the Chronicle. \u201cAnd this\u2062 is our point, if you\u2019re\u200d going to have\u200b policies that discriminate against\u200d one group of \u200bpeople, then own it, post it publicly, \u2064and let \u200byour potential customers make the decision that best reflects their\u2064 values.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Western Journal reached out to the\u2063 bakery for\u2063 comment but did\u200d not immediately receive\u200b a response.<\/p>\n<p>Reem\u2019s is not the first \u200dSan Francisco business to\u200b try and ban\u200c police \u2064officers.<\/p>\n<p>Early this year, \u200da <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/would-be-pizza-shop-robber-stopped-cold-after-14-year-old-shoots-him-in-the-face-police-say\/\" title=\"Would-Be Pizza Shop Robber Stopped Cold After 14-Year-Old Shoots Him In The Face, Police Say\">pizza shop employee<\/a> was fired \u200cafter he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/pizza-shop-employee-gets-rude-awakening-telling-cops-not-welcome\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told several officers<\/a> that they were \u201cnot welcome\u201d to eat at the restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, the restaurant Hilda\u2064 and\u200d Jesse backtracked \u200con its \u200canti-cop policy and \u200capologized after a backlash \u2064arose\u2062 when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/restaurants\/article\/SF-brunch-spot-asks-3-armed-San-Francisco-police-16675627.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">managers demanded<\/a> that an officer leave the \u2064dining area.<\/p>\n<p>All this comes as San Francisco \u200bis seeing one business after another closing up shop because of rampant crime.<\/p>\n<p>Since\u200d 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/almost-two-dozen-major-retailers-fled-downtown-san-francisco-amid-skyrocketing-crime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">23 major retailers<\/a> have fled\u2062 the city \u2063and shut down stores, some \u200bof which had been open for \u200cdecades.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\" class=\"one-half\">\n<div class=\"firefly-poll-question\">Are Democratic politicians responsible for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-speaks-out-in-interview-after-georgia-indictment\/\" title=\"Trump addresses Georgia indictment in interview.\">rising crime\u200c rates<\/a> in American\u200b cities?<\/div>\n<div id=\"pollFormBox\" style=\"display: none\">\n<p>\t\t<label>Yes<\/label><br \/>\n\t\t<label>No<\/label><br \/>\n\t\t<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-poll-disclaimer\">\n<p>\t\tCompleting\u200b this poll entitles you to The Western Journal news updates free \u2064of charge.
