This\u200d flesh-rotting drug, called Xylazine, is \u2064causing havoc \u200con the streets of New York, as well as in San Francisco and Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>The effects of this &#8220;zombie drug&#8221; are\u2062 horrifying. It causes severe skin lesions that resemble flesh being eaten away, sometimes down to the\u2062 bone. Additionally, \u200dit \u200dcan slow a \u2063person&#8217;s heart and breathing \u2064to the point \u200cof stopping, leaving\u2062 users \u200ccatatonic or dead.<\/p>\n<p>What makes the\u200d situation even more alarming is\u2062 that Xylazine is often mixed with other drugs like fentanyl, meth,\u200b and \u2064cocaine. This means that\u200c users are unknowingly consuming this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/police-find-headless-torso-in-deep-freezer-on-new-orleans-mans-property-suspect-booked\/\" title=\"Police Find 'Headless Torso' in Deep Freezer on New Orleans Man's Property, Suspect Booked\">dangerous substance<\/a>, creating a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/flesh-rotting-zombie-drug-tranq-has-dea-alarmed\/\" title=\"DEA Concerned about Flesh-Rotting Zombie Drug 'Tranq'\">potentially deadly cocktail<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The rapid spread of &#8220;tranq&#8221; in\u2063 New York has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-doctors-scrambling-as-flesh-rotting-zombie-drug-tranq-takes-over-streets\/\" title=\"NY Doctors Struggle as 'Zombie Drug' Spreads on Streets\">left law enforcement astonished<\/a>. It has become a major concern for\u200d doctors like Dr. Paolo Coppola, co-founder of Victory \u2063Recovery Partners. He\u200b describes the clinical picture as &#8220;diabolical&#8221; and much more complicated when Xylazine is involved.<\/p>\n<p>One\u2062 of the biggest challenges is \u2062that the\u200d emergency opioid reversal medicine, Narcan, does\u200b not work on Xylazine since it is \u200cnot an opioid. This \u200cposes a\u200c significant problem for doctors trying to save lives.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Coppola explains, &#8220;When [an addict] uses a speedball \u2063of cocaine and heroin,\u200b we can deal with that no problem. You reverse the heroin so they start \u2062breathing\u200b again and you\u2062 wait for the cocaine to \u200bfinish up. Xylazine doesn&#8217;t\u2064 work that way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Doctors \u2063often have to resort to using different drugs to help patients \u200bon &#8220;tranq&#8221; whose blood pressure or heart rate is dangerously low.\u2062 Furthermore, addicts can unknowingly become addicted to Xylazine, and when they try to \u2064get clean, the withdrawal symptoms leave them anxious\u200b and irritable.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Steve Salvatore, co-founder and president of Victory Recovery Partners, warns\u200d that the \u2064popularity of\u2064 &#8220;tranq&#8221; is on the \u2063rise \u200ddue to its\u2062 cheap \u200bprice and \u200dprolonged high. He predicts that we will be seeing a lot more of\u200b Xylazine in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The Drug \u200dEnforcement Agency (DEA) is also alarmed by the spread of Xylazine. They \u2064have seized mixtures of \u2064Xylazine and fentanyl in 48 states. In \u2064fact, in 2022, the\u2064 DEA found \u2064Xylazine\u2062 in about 23% of the fentanyl powder and 7% of\u2063 the\u200b fentanyl\u2063 pills seized by the\u2064 agency.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2062Centers for Disease Control and\u2063 Prevention\u200b (CDC) \u2062reported that from January 2019 \u200bto \u2064June 2022, the number\u2063 of fentanyl-related \u200ddeaths\u200b involving Xylazine spiked from about\u200d 2.9% to 10.9% in 20 states \u2064and the District of Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>Although Xylazine \u200dwas originally \u2062intended for animal use,\u2063 it\u2064 is not a \u2063controlled substance federally \u2064or in New York.
