It requires urgent medical care \u2062to \u200dprevent organ or \u200btissue damage, or even death. According to the CDC,\u200b at least 1.7 million adults in the United States develop \u2063sepsis each year, with 270,000 dying during \u200dhospitalization.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC&#8217;s recent initiative, called the &#8220;Hospital \u2064Sepsis \u200dProgram Core\u200d Elements,&#8221; is designed to ensure that\u2064 American hospitals have\u2064 the necessary resources and \u2063personnel to\u2063 effectively deal with sepsis cases.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This critical \u200bresource is\u200d intended\u200c to help \u200dhospitals\u200d implement, monitor,\u200d and \u2063optimize \u2064sepsis\u200c programs and improve survival \u200drates,&#8221; stated the \u200dCDC in \u2062an Aug. 24 media release.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC&#8217;s survey of 5,221\u200c hospitals found \u2062that 73 percent have \u2062sepsis teams, but \u200conly 55\u2062 percent provide dedicated time for team leaders to \u200dmanage sepsis\u2062 programs.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s important to note\u200b that almost any infection, including COVID-19, RSV, and influenza, can lead to sepsis. In fact, 87 percent of\u2063 sepsis adult patients arrive at \u2063hospitals with\u200d an infection that \u200dis \u2063not improving.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC&#8217;s \u200bsepsis program focuses on seven <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-iran-re-supplies-hamas-with-thousands-of-new-rockets\/\" title=\"Report: Iran re-supplies Hamas with thousands of new rockets\">key elements<\/a>, including improving identification, management, and recovery \u200cfrom sepsis; measuring\u200b sepsis epidemiology and progress;\u2062 appointing program leaders; and providing sepsis education to healthcare professionals.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sepsis\u2063 is taking too many lives. One in \u200dthree people \u200bwho dies in a hospital\u200c has\u200b sepsis during that hospitalization,&#8221; said CDC Director Mandy \u200cCohen. \u2062&#8221;Rapid diagnosis and immediate \u200dappropriate treatment, including antibiotics,\u2063 are essential to saving lives, yet the challenges of awareness about and recognition\u200b of sepsis\u200b are enormous.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The\u2064 CDC&#8217;s initiative has received support from the American Hospital Association (AHA). AHA chief physician \u200dexecutive Chris DeRienzo \u200bemphasized\u2063 that sepsis is a complex disease that requires a tailored approach\u2063 in hospitals.<\/p>\n<h3>The Illness<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-did-biden-get-covid-twice-after-4-shots-paxlovid\/\" title=\"Why Did Biden Get COVID Twice After 4 Shots, Paxlovid?\">immune system protects<\/a> the body from\u200b infections \u2063and illnesses. However, when\u2062 the system overreacts,\u2062 it can be dangerous. However, when the system goes \u200cinto overdrive, the body can experience extensive \u200dinflammation.<\/p>\n<p>While bacteria are the main cause \u2064of sepsis, viruses\u2064 like COVID-19 and \u200bfungal \u200binfections\u200c can also lead\u200c to sepsis.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most\u200b cases \u200dof sepsis start before a patient goes to \u2064the hospital.\u2063 Infections that lead to sepsis often originate in\u200b the lung, \u200durinary tract, skin, or gastrointestinal tract. Without \u2064timely treatment, sepsis\u2062 can\u2062 rapidly cause tissue\u200b damage, organ \u200cfailure, and death,&#8221; warns the CDC.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nearly \u200ba quarter to a third of\u2063 people with sepsis had a healthcare \u200cvisit in\u200d the week before they were hospitalized.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Individuals with weakened immune\u200b systems are at a higher\u200c risk of\u200b sepsis.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The CDC has initiated a program to decrease hospital deaths from sepsis, a life-threatening condition resulting from the body&#8217;s severe reaction to infection.
