Chutkan.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>The question of whether Mark Meadows, Trump\u2019s former chief of\u200d staff, may transfer his election-related charges from state to federal court was \u200bbeing discussed in a separate hearing that was taking place in\u2064 Atlanta, Georgia, on \u2062Monday morning. <\/p>\n<p>According to candidate polls, Trump is the current leading \u200bfavorite\u200d to\u200b win the Republican nomination for president in 2024, and the D.C. trial will begin the day\u2063 before Super Tuesday\u2019s primary.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is the only individual indicted in the D.C. case \u2064so far, but his indictment \u2063details\u200d claim\u2063 that he engaged six \u2064accomplices in his alleged efforts to reverse President Joe Biden\u2019s election win and stay in power. Trump is the first former \u2062American president to be \u2063accused of criminal charges. <\/p>\n<p>While leading the \u200dRepublican field for the \u200c2024 presidential nomination, he has been indicted in\u2063 four separate cases and has denied misconduct in each case.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan\u2063 emphasized \u2062her\u2063 intention to \u201ckeep politics out of this\u201d during\u2064 her opening statement \u2064at the Washington, \u2064D.C., hearing \u2064for the 2020 election obstruction case against Trump. However, Trump and\u2062 other\u200c GOP \u2063representatives\u200d have expressed numerous times that Chutkan is highly partisan.<\/p>\n<p>Chutkan gained notoriety for\u2064 imposing extremely\u200d harsh, \u200clong-term punishments on participants in the January 6<sup>th<\/sup> Capitol breach that \u2063were much\u2062 stricter than the punishments advised by federal prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p>  Matt Gaetz\u2063 (R-Fla.) also brought up the fact that she \u200cloudly criticized the Capitol\u200c disturbance while openly supporting the 2020 Black Lives Matter (BLM)\u2064 riots, most of which were violent, inflicted \u2062injuries and \u200ddeaths, and \u200dwreaked havoc \u200con small businesses and\u2062 communities.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cJudge Tanya Chutkan\u2019s impracticality of her tough sentencing of Jan. 6<sup>th<\/sup> \u2063 defendants, despite openly supporting the violent Black\u2064 Lives Matter protests of 2020, showcases not only a lack of impartiality but also \u200da\u2062 disregard for the\u200d sacred duty of a judge to uphold justice fairly,\u201d Gaetz declared.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/2021\/11\/how-many-died-as-a-result-of-capitol-riot\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/2021\/11\/how-many-died-as-a-result-of-capitol-riot\/\" target=\"_blank\">FactCheck.org<\/a>, less than 5 people died during the\u2063 January 6<sup>th<\/sup> Capitol breach, and \u200dthey \u2062were all Trump supporters. \u2062Two\u2064 of the \u2064deaths, Kevin Greeson, 55, and \u2064Benjamin Phillips, 50, were from heart attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a Jan. 7<sup>th<\/sup> statement from\u200d then-U.S.\u200c Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund said that, Ashli \u200cBabbitt, 35, an \u2064Air Force veteran, died\u200d on the day of\u2062 the riot \u200cafter being shot in the shoulder by a Capitol Police\u2063 officer as she\u2063 tried to shove her way \u200dinto the House chamber where members of Congress\u200b were \u200dtaking cover.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Justice declared in \u200dApril 2022\u2063 that the Capitol Police\u2062 officer who shot Babbitt would not be\u2064 charged.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2020\/08\/10\/fact-checking-claim-about-deaths-damage-from-black-lives-matter-protests\/113878088\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/2021\/11\/how-many-died-as-a-result-of-capitol-riot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fact check by the Austin-American Statesman<\/a> \u2062stated \u200bthat the deaths of at \u2063least a dozen individuals, \u200dor as many as 19, \u2062were reported during the\u200c BLM George Floyd protests, \u200bas \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trumps-d-c-election-trial-date-is-set-for-early-march\/\" title=\"Trump's D.C. election trial scheduled for March.\">press reports stated<\/a>\u2064 in June 2021.
