According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/business\/ct-biz-chicago-sues-kia-hyundai-anti-theft-devices-20230825-vfdddxga3falrosjf5522rlcyq-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chicago Tribune<\/a>, the city \u200chas filed a lawsuit against these automakers, alleging that their vehicles are designed in a\u200d way that\u2064 makes them vulnerable to theft.<\/p>\n<p>In its legal filings,\u200d the city argues that hot-wiring vehicles is not as easy as it seems, unless \u2063the vehicle was manufactured by Hyundai \u200cor Kia.\u2064 The \u200ccity claims that\u200b car thefts have increased by a shocking 139 percent \u2063in \u200djust three \u200dyears in Chicago, with\u2064 law enforcement only able to solve 4 percent of these cases, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/news.wttw.com\/2023\/08\/21\/motor-vehicle-thefts-chicago-have-jumped-139-3-years-while-only-4-are-solved\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WTTW<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit accuses\u200c Hyundai and Kia of creating a &#8220;public nuisance&#8221; and seeks damages\u200b in the form of fines for each theft.
