Amy Klobuchar Introduces Big Tech Antitrust Bill Proposal\">trial date<\/a> for the case \u200cdealing with \u200dformer \u2062President Donald Trump&#8217;s \u200befforts to challenge the 2020 \u200delection results. The trial is scheduled to begin on March 4.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Chutkan declared both trial dates offered by\u2063 President \u2062Trump&#8217;s lawyers and\u200d special counsel Jack Smith as unacceptable. Interestingly, the \u2063judge selected a trial \u200ddate that falls one day before the \u200c&#8221;Super Tuesday&#8221; slew of primary elections in 16 states.<\/p>\n<p>Mr.\u200c Smith initially requested a January trial \u200bdate with jury selection as \u2063early as Dec. 11, while the defense proposed\u2062 April 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The case appears to be exceptionally complex. During \u2064the hearing, federal prosecutor \u200cMolly \u200dGaston revealed that the prosecutors are almost finished handing over some 12.8 million documents and\u200c files to the defense\u2063 as \u200bpart of the discovery process.<\/p>\n<p>President\u200b Trump&#8217;s lawyer, John \u2064Lauro, criticized the prosecutors for\u200c suggesting that he could review the discovery in just four months, calling it &#8220;ridiculous&#8221; and \u2062accusing them of trying to turn the case into a &#8220;show trial.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The judge pointed out that President \u2062Trump has resources available that other defendants don&#8217;t, without specifying what those \u200bresources are. She also \u200cmentioned that lawyers would be reviewing available\u200b materials even before \u2063the charges were \u2062brought, to which Mr. Lauro explained that he\u200d wasn&#8217;t yet President Trump&#8217;s lawyer at that time.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2062 will be several \u200bpre-trial legal issues that need to be litigated, including \u2063subpoenas and questions regarding Mr. Smith&#8217;s novel use of criminal \u200claw, \u200baccording to Mr. Lauro. The judge jokingly responded that she expects \u2063to see him arguing those issues before her many times before the trial.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Gaston highlighted that President Trump and\u200b his lawyers have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-bill-seeks-to-ban-police-offers-who-have-expressed-religious-or-conservative-views\/\" title=\"California Bill Seeks To Ban Police Offers Who Have Expressed Religious Or Conservative Views\">made public comments<\/a> regarding the case and \u200bthe work of the Congressional January 6 committee.
