However,\u200c his courageous decision has\u2064 come at a great cost.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Dettmar \u200dnow faces the loss\u200c of his legal career and pension, along with a two<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-nazi-97-found-guilty-in-connection-with-10k-holocaust-murders\/\" title=\"Former Nazi, 97, Found Guilty in Connection With 10k Holocaust Murders\">-year suspended prison sentence<\/a> for\u200c allegedly \u200c&#8221;perverting the law.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>A Stand for Children&#8217;s Well-being<\/h3>\n<p>During the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republican-debate-fact-checking-the-2024-gop-presidential-fields-first-showdown\/\" title=\"Fact-checking the 2024 GOP presidential field's first debate.\">pandemic-era lockdowns<\/a>, \u200cthe Thuringian state government mandated that all children \u2062wear masks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-governor-dramatically-rolls-back-coronavirus-restrictions-after-biden-attacked-republicans-for-similar-moves\/\" title=\"Democrat Governor \u2018Dramatically Rolls Back\u2019 Coronavirus Restrictions After Biden Attacked Republicans For Similar Moves\">maintain social distancing<\/a>, and undergo virus tests\u2063 while at school.<\/p>\n<p>However,\u2064 Judge Dettmar ruled that masks should \u2062not \u200cbe mandatory for\u2064 children at two schools in Weimar, Thuringia. This decision came\u2063 after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/german-court-sentences-judge-for-ruling-against-governments-mask-mandates\/\" title=\"German judge sentenced for ruling against government's mask mandates.\">concerned mother raised\u2062 concerns<\/a> about the\u200c negative effects of masks on her children&#8217;s health, including insomnia, nausea,\u2063 and headaches.<\/p>\n<p>With the welfare \u2062of the \u200cchildren in mind, Judge Dettmar \u2062informed the schools in \u2064Weimar that they could no longer enforce\u200d the mask mandate.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Unsurprisingly, the \u2063state government\u200b was outraged by\u2064 Judge Dettmar&#8217;s ruling and demanded his punishment \u200cand removal from the bench.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200d Higher Regional Court in Erfurt eventually overturned the judge&#8217;s decision, \u2062following a complaint \u200dby the state&#8217;s education department. Students were once again required \u200bto wear masks in schools.<\/p>\n<p>The district court in Erfurt argued that only an administrative court had the jurisdiction to make such \u2064a ruling\u2064 and that Judge Dettmar had overstepped his authority.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the backlash, Judge Dettmar defended\u2062 his decision, stating that he had consulted\u2062 certified \u200buniversity experts before making his ruling.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Accusations and a\u200b Suspended Sentence<\/h3>\n<p>Unfortunately, Judge Dettmar&#8217;s suspension from the bench was not the end of his troubles.<\/p>\n<p>State prosecutors took action against him, charging him\u2062 with &#8220;perverting the law&#8221; and ruling on a matter outside of his\u2062 jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>During the trial, prosecutors\u2064 argued that the judge had made\u2064 his ruling as a political\u200b statement against lockdowns, rather than out of\u2064 genuine concern \u2064for the children involved. They also accused him of deleting emails and files to cover up the \u2062true motive behind his decision.<\/p>\n<p>A police raid on his home and office further revealed alleged bias against lockdown measures in his private correspondence.<\/p>\n<p>Despite these accusations, Judge\u2062 Dettmar maintained \u2064that he had consulted with \u200dscientists \u2064who\u200c were critical of the government&#8217;s measures\u200d at the time.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Currently, Judge\u200d Dettmar&#8217;s legal team is considering an appeal as he\u200c faces \u2064the possibility of dismissal from his duties as a \u2062judge, in\u2064 addition to his suspended sentence.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u2064 German law, a civil servant sentenced to\u200d a custodial sentence of more\u200d than 12 months loses both their position and pension.
