Among these \u200bDemocrats are prominent members of the\u200c &#8220;Squad&#8221; such as Alexandria \u200dOcasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and Jamaal \u200dBowman. Their financial filings for 2022 show that they or their \u200bfamily members \u200dhold up to $1.7 million in\u200b student debt. This raises concerns about \u2062a potential conflict of interest, as these politicians are urging President Joe \u2064Biden to waive college loans at\u200b the expense of taxpayers.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;This \u2064is little different from officials advocating or voting for policies that benefit companies in which they own stock,&#8221; says Michael Chamberlain, director of the \u2062watchdog group \u2062Protect the Public&#8217;s Trust. &#8220;Some\u2063 people may\u2063 even consider it worse, \u2064perhaps, because it&#8217;s at \u2064the direct expense of taxpayers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Regardless of the wisdom of the policy, certainly \u200cthose who could gain personally \u2062from it should think about taking \u200ca step back from leading on the \u200cissue,&#8221; he\u2064 adds.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In June, the Supreme \u2064Court dealt a\u2062 blow to Biden&#8217;s $400 billion federal student loan \u2064forgiveness plan, ruling that it exceeded congressional authority. However, nearly 90 Democrats \u2062recently sent a letter to Biden, urging him to use &#8220;additional tools&#8221; to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-push-for-student-debt-forgiveness-would-cost-taxpayers-millions\/\" title=\"Democrats push for student debt forgiveness, would cost taxpayers millions\">cancel student debt<\/a> by\u200b early 2024. If this were\u2063 to happen, 13 of the \u200dsignatories or their relatives, who currently hold loans, could benefit financially.<\/p>\n<p>Among the Democrats \u2063with significant student loan debt are Grace Meng, Jimmy Gomez, Nanette Barrag\u00e1n, Brendan Boyle, Veronica Escobar,\u2064 Nikema Williams, Salud Carbajal, Jasmine Crockett, and Greg Casar. Additionally, Rep. Jahana Hayes disclosed up to $250,000 \u200din loans\u2064 through the Education Department \u200dbut did not sign\u200b the letter.<\/p>\n<p>While some of these politicians have publicly advocated for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-silent-on-memo-to-cancel-student-debt\/\" title=\"Biden Silent on Memo to Cancel Student Debt\">canceling student debt<\/a>, \u200dcritics argue that it raises questions about\u200c their motivations. \u2064Rep. Virginia Foxx, chairwoman of the Education and Workforce Committee, \u2062emphasizes that the American taxpayer ultimately bears the\u2064 burden of such policies.<\/p>\n<p>Members \u2062of the &#8220;Squad&#8221; also have their share\u200c of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/whoopi-declares-2024-gop-hopeful-wannabe-dictator-this-time-its-not-trump-2\/\" title=\"Whoopi labels 2024 GOP aspirant 'dictator' - Not Trump again.\">student loan \u200bdebt<\/a>.
