Upstate Hospital in Syracuse, New York, has \u2063also joined the\u200d trend, according \u2063to the\u200d U.K. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/health\/article-12437079\/new-covid-variant-mask-mandate-hospital-kaiser-permanente-california.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily\u200d Mail<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Further, the BA.2.86 variant has sparked concern because \u200dit appears able to evade existing\u2062 immunity to the coronavirus, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/health\/2023\/08\/25\/covid-variant-ba-2-86-pirola\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The \u2064Washington Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2023\/08\/23\/health\/masks-covid-surge-wellness\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN report<\/a> suggested wearing masks again.<\/p>\n<h3>Not All Masks Are Created Equal<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re a \u2062caregiver for somebody who is at increased risk of complication following infection, \u2064then I think you should also consider putting \u200ca mask on \u200bin public places,\u201d Dr. Jonathan \u200dReiner, a cardiologist \u2063and a\u2062 professor at the George Washington University School of Medicine &#038; Health Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>But a study\u2063 that was released in April in\u200d the journal\u00a0Ecotoxicology and Environmental\u2063 Safety and through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC10112860\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National\u2064 Institutes of Health<\/a> said not all masks are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/germany-thermally-recycle-covid-masks-country-faces-energy-apocalypse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">equal<\/a>, and that some can be downright dangerous, releasing \u2062chemicals linked \u200dto\u200b seizures\u200b and cancer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn\u200c increase\u200c in the concentration of environmental particulate matter and the spread of the COVID-19 virus have dramatically increased our time spent wearing masks. If <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/attorneys-general-from-7-states-file-lawsuit-challenging-bidens-vaccine-mandate\/\" title=\"Attorneys General from 7 States File Lawsuit Challenging Biden's Vaccine Mandate\">harmful chemicals<\/a> are released from these masks, there may be harmful effects on human health,\u201d the study\u200c said.<\/p>\n<p>The study noted that South\u200d Korean-made \u200dKF94 masks showed toxic\u200b chemical levels \u201cat concentrations 22.9\u2013147\u00a0times higher than those found in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/amy-schumer-regina-hall-and-wanda-sykes-tapped-to-host-2022-oscars\/\" title=\"Amy Schumer, Regina Hall, And Wanda Sykes Tapped To Host 2022 Oscars\">masks made<\/a> from other materials, such as cotton and other functional \u200cfabrics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The study reported that volatile organic compounds released by the KF94 masks were \u201cabout 14 times more \u2064than that released by the cotton masks\u201d and that in some cases, \u00a0the level of toxic chemicals released \u200b\u00a0posed \u201ca\u200b risk \u200cto human\u2062 health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u2063 study noted that in \u200dwarmer weather, the amount of \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/uncovered-network-doctors-pushing-masks-100-fake-never-existed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">toxic \u200bchemicals<\/a> released increased.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is clear that\u2064 particular attention must be paid to the VOCs associated with the use of \u2062KF94 masks their effects on \u2063human health,\u201d \u2063the study wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The U.K. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/health\/article-12443319\/Mask-study-published-NIH-suggests-N95-Covid-masks-expose-wearers-dangerous-level-toxic-compounds-linked-seizures-cancer.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily\u200c Mail<\/a> reported that the\u2063 Environmental Protection Agency called for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/warning-covid-masks-linked-to-seizures-cancer-nih-study\/\" title=\"NIH Study: Covid Masks Linked to Seizures, Cancer - Caution!\">keeping total volatile organic compound levels<\/a> below 0.5 parts per million indoors.<\/p>\n<p>It reported that the \u2063worst <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/christian-arrested-attending-outdoor-worship-service-no-mask-celebrates-victory-blue-city-pays\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mask<\/a> sampled in the study had about \u20634.8 parts per million \u2014 more than nine\u2064 times EPA\u2019s limit.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Stuart Fischer, of New York said\u200d the study\u2062 was not\u2062 conclusive, but said, \u201cthere seems to be\u2063 diminishing returns on the need for masks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2019I think following the general recommendations might be helpful, \u2064but \u200bit\u2019s not clear yet if we need the sweeping edicts of three years ago.
