Those winds can be upwards of 90 miles per hour, and\u200d a \u2062significant storm surge is \u2064expected to hit many of the coastal areas. This is important. So,\u200d people can\u2062 rest assured we&#8217;re we&#8217;ve always been ahead of \u200cthe curve on this,&#8221; \u200bhe said. &#8220;We\u200b are going to\u2062 have resources \u2063staged, and we&#8217;re\u2062 going to execute a response here this week.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These storms\u200d can \u200cwobble, he added, \u2064noting that Hurricane Ian was \u2064not expected to decimate \u200dSouthwest Florida as it did in 2022. He urged Floridians along the entire Gulf Coast to &#8220;be vigilant&#8221; even if they find themselves currently outside the projection\u2064 tracks known as the &#8220;cone of \u2062uncertainty.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Governor was joined by Kevin Guthrie, Executive Director of the\u200b Florida Division of Emergency \u2062Management.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Every tropical storm, every hurricane is different, and this is no exception,&#8221; \u200dsaid Mr. Guthrie.\u200c &#8220;We cannot gauge our ability to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-lays-out-proactive-preparation-for-floridas-first-hurricane-hit-of-2023\/\" title=\"DeSantis prepares Florida for 2023's first hurricane.\">withstand future\u2062 hurricanes based<\/a> on prior experiences. This will not\u200d be Hurricane Hermie. This \u2062will not be Hurricane Ian.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Proactive Planning<\/h2>\n<div style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"aligncenter\"><figcaption>Republican presidential candidate Florida Gov. (Brandon Bell\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>They outlined \u2063the state&#8217;s \u2063proactive plans to counter the storm&#8217;s damages and\u200d addressed the \u200ddiscovery of gas being delivered from\u2063 the\u2062 Port of Tampa being cross-contaminated with diesel fuel.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our emergency operations center will go to level 1 with round-the-clock activity starting at 7\u200c a.m. tomorrow,&#8221; Mr.\u200c DeSantis said.<\/p>\n<p>1,100 national guardsmen have also been mobilized with 2,400 vehicles designed to\u200b operate \u200bin high water levels \u2063and 12 aircraft for potential rescue and recovery efforts.<\/p>\n<p>The power companies are also \u2062expected to start pre-staging linesmen on Monday to combat any losses of power as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NHC_TAFB\/status\/1695830597149790489?s=20\">View Tweet<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you are in the path of this storm, you should \u2062expect\u2063 power outages, so please prepare for that,&#8221; Mr. DeSantis said. &#8220;Particularly\u2064 &#8230; if this storm ends up coming in the Tallahassee region, there&#8217;s \u200ca lot \u200dof trees that are going to get knocked down, the power lines are going to get knocked down\u2014that is just going\u2062 to\u2062 happen. So just be prepared \u2064for that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. DeSantis explained\u2064 that the state \u2062would be\u200d staging a majority of its resources in Marion County and other parts of\u2064 North Florida \u200ddue to what he described as a strategic advantage\u200b that would &#8220;give us the flexibility\u2014in case the (storm) track changes\u2014to be able to\u200d mobilize the resources where\u200c they need to\u200b go.<\/p>\n<p>With regard to fuel concerns, Mr. Guthrie said: &#8220;I want to ensure Floridians that we are coordinating here the EOC (emergency operations center) with everyone from petroleum retailers to\u2064 the port&#8217;s themselves to ensure that the disruption will not be widespread or prolonged \u200dand the\u200b residents can have \u2064a seamless can have seamless access to fuel.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Cooperation with Local Officials<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. DeSantis and Mr. Guthrie\u200b also stressed that cooperation \u2062with local municipalities\u200c and private companies is essential to executing the best response to the impending storms.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What we would\u2062 say to the municipalities and other\u200c electric outfits is please be willing \u2062to accept this mutual aid so we can get\u2062 the\u2064 power back on\u2064 as quickly as possible,&#8221;\u200d Mr. DeSantis said. &#8220;When\u200b we [had hurricanes] in the places that accepted the mutual\u200b aid \u200cearly, they got the power back on a lot\u2063 quicker. So please, these resources are going to be there. Dowell\/Orlando Sentinel)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Florida Department of Transportation also expanded weight and size requirements for emergency \u200btransport in order\u200d to get supplies\u200d into the affected areas\u2062 as fast as possible.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about evacuation\u200d orders, Mr.\u200d DeSantis\u2062 explained\u200c that it is up to\u2062 the local levels of government to take those actions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The\u2063 reason the state doesn&#8217;t\u200c do an evacuation order\u2062 is because evacuations are effectuated by \u2062local officials,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s got\u200d to be &#8216;bottom-up&#8217; because they&#8217;re the ones \u2063that are controlling how the traffic is going to \u2064flow, how people are gonna go, whether there are shelters or not, that is just not done by \u200dthe state.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Utilize this time \u2064now to sit\u2063 down with\u200c each and every member of your\u2063 household and communicate your plan,&#8221; Mr. Guthrie said to Florida residents. &#8220;Make a plan if \u200cyou haven&#8217;t done so, and make sure you focus on those household members or even your businesses.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Shelters are expected to be opened in several counties.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Medically Dependent Floridians and those with access and functional \u2064needs can \u200dreceive extra assistance during \u2064a \u200cdisaster through the state special needs registry,&#8221; Mr. Guthrie said.<\/p>\n<p>The registry can\u200c be found at \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.floridadisaster.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FloridaDisaster.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Addressing a Di<\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Florida Gov.
