Instead, once \u200cupon \u200ca time \u200bnearly \u2062a quarter of a century ago, he took out a full-page ad calling for harsh justice against those\u200b accused in a \u2064brutal rape and beating\u2062 of\u2062 a jogger\u2064 in \u2064Central Park.<\/p>\n<p>Now, in case you\u2019ve been \u2064actively hiding from the news cycle at an unnelectrified\u200b retreat somewhere deep \u200cin the jungles of the Seychelles \u2014\u200d and I\u2062 hardly blame you, given that our modern clown world has somehow turned itself\u200d exponentially more punchinello-esque these\u2064 past few weeks \u2014 \u200cthe former \u200dpresident turned himself in at the Fulton County jail in Atlanta on Thursday, leading to CNN and MSNBC practically replacing all programming with a static picture \u2064of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-already-using-mugshot-democrats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his mug shot<\/a> and the sounds of staff hooting, hollering and popping \u200dchampagne corks \u200din the background.<\/p>\n<p>I \u2064kid \u2062only slightly: While I \u200dcould find no \u200dfigure for the\u200d exact number of \u2063times these networks showed Trump\u2019s mug shot, the <a href=\"https:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/nb\/bill-dagostino\/2023\/08\/24\/cnn-msnbc-display-trump-co-defendants-mugshots-188-times-24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media Resource Center<\/a> calculated that between 6 \u200cp.m. on Wednesday\u2064 and 6\u200b p.m. on Thursday, the two showed the\u2062 mug shots of Trump\u2019s co-defendants \u200b\u2014 \u2064including former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani and\u2062 Trump administration chief of staff Mark Meadows \u2014\u2062 a grand total \u2062of 188\u200d times.<\/p>\n<p>Just \u200bin case \u2063you missed \u2064the first 187, of course.<\/p>\n<p>Now, of course, this is \u201cjustice\u201d for the left, because Donald \u200cTrump and those around him have been guilty of a \u200ccrime since the moment he was elected president back in 2016. What \u2063crime? Find one. And lo and behold,\u200b several prosecutors have.<\/p>\n<p>But for Joy Reid \u2014\u2064 who can\u2064 reliably come in with the \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/joy-reid-laughs-guest-slams-clarence-thomas-describes-mutilated-justice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">worst MSNBC take<\/a> on practically anything, which\u200d says something, given\u200b the network \u2014 this isn\u2019t justice for questioning\u200b the results of the election or \u201cRussian collusion\u201d or the Capitol incursion of Jan. 6. 2021, or anything \u200dlike\u200c that. Instead,\u2063 this was \u200bfor the Central \u200bPark Five.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, when \u2063I moved back to New York,\u200c um, one of the mugshots that\u2063 sit with \u2063me \u2014 I mean, I\u2064 still remember that he [Trump] made five teenagers \u200dmy age take a mug shot,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/msnbcs-reid-kemp-used-bioengineering-get-enough-white-voters-win\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reid<\/a> said. \u201cThat\u200d he wanted them to not just take a\u200c mug shot,\u200b he wanted them\u200c dead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was the \u200cCentral\u2062 Park Five case \u2014 the exonerated five, you\u2062 know \u2062\u2014 \u200band they were\u200d my age, so as a teenager living in New York, I\u2019ve said \u200bit \u200cbefore this, because\u200d I\u2019ve never\u2064 watched \u2018The\u200d Apprentice,&#8217;\u201d \u200cshe continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI despised Donald\u200d Trump because he, to me, signified\u2063 the \u200brich, white guy in Manhattan that absolutely \u2062hated\u2064 and\u200d despised\u2063 me\u200d and that hated and despised my cousins, my friends, everyone,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so, to me, this is justice,\u201d she continued. \u201cThe fact that \u2063Manhattan \u2063didn\u2019t \u2062give him a mug shot, I thought was offensive \u2026\u200c I think Fani Willis is a national\u200c hero,\u200b because she, \u2063more than any other prosecutor in this country \u2026 she\u2019s \u200bthe only \u2064one who said these wealthy,\u200c powerful, \u200dprivileged men and women are just American citizens and when they break the law, they \u200dwill \u200btake that picture.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cPeople \u2062like Trump persecuted Black and brown people in New York. It\u2019s \u200bwhat they \u2062did for fun, it\u2019s what they did\u2064 for pleasure,\u201d Reid says. \u201cTo me, this\u200b is justice.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoyAnnReid?\">@JoyAnnReid<\/a> recounts how Trump wanted the exonerated Central Park Five dead. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KPgCKoSaao\">pic.twitter.com\/KPgCKoSaao<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 MSNBC (@MSNBC)\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MSNBC\/status\/1694896893644407063?\">August 25, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yeah, so in \u2063the \u200bworld of Joy Reid, it\u2019s Trump, the rich, evil \u200bwhite guy she claims hates her and every one\u2064 of her relatives because of\u2064 his thoughts \u200din the Central\u200b Park Five\u200d case and has clearly broken the law even though he hasn\u2019t been convicted \u2014 who\u2019s the\u200b racist here. Not Reid.\u2063 Nosiree.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps some of you have forgotten the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/former-nypd-commissioner-slams-aoc-immature-child-de-blasio-marxist-trojan-horse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pre-Giuliani<\/a> days in New York City \u2014 which weren\u2019t exactly \u200cthe \u200dbest\u200c of times if you liked things like,\u2062 say, safety and livability.\u200c The\u2062 Central Park Five case\u2064 was a notable flashpoint in that ugly period in Gotham\u2019s history, and one \u200cin which Donald Trump played a controversial part.<\/p>\n<p>In April of 1989, \u200da woman who\u2019d been jogging was \u200cbrutally raped, beaten and left for dead,\u2064 though\u200d she survived.<\/p>\n<p>Five young men, who were black and Latino, were charged with \u200dthe crime and eventually convicted. However, despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/newsbeat-48609693\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">admissions<\/a> from four of the defendants that they\u2062 had\u200d played some role in assaulting the \u2064jogger, DNA evidence later proved a different man committed the crime. Supporters \u200cof Central Park Five allege the confessions were coerced\u2062 from the teenagers.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/06\/18\/nyregion\/central-park-five-trump.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York\u2064 Times<\/a> \u200b noted in a 2019 report,\u200c in the aftermath of the crime, Trump took out <a title=\"Reid asserts that Trump's 'justice' is payback for an incident from 35 years ago.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/reid-claims-justice-for-trump-is-actually-revenge-for-something-he-did-nearly-35-years-ago\/\">full-page newspaper advertisements \u2014 including<\/a> in\u2063 the Times\u2063 \u2014 calling for New York\u200d state to re-adopt the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-face-death-penalty-charge-brought-jack-smith\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">death penalty<\/a> \u2014 although he did \u2063not, as Reid erroneously \u200dclaimed, assert\u2064 the \u2063death penalty should \u2063be applied to the Central Park Five.<\/p>\n<p>(He \u200dalso had\u200d no power to force \u200cthe young\u200b men to submit to mug \u2062shots, being a <a title=\"\u2018Aggressive\u2019 Homeless Man Arrested, Accused Of Assaulting CA Governor Before Pizza Photo Op\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/aggressive-homeless-man-arrested-accused-of-assaulting-ca-governor-before-pizza-photo-op\/\">real-estate developer<\/a>, not a law enforcement official \u2014 and, indeed, the ad <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/central-park-five-settlement-when-they-see-us-41m-1444765\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">didn\u2019t include mug shots<\/a> \u200c or a mention of mug shots, making\u200b Reid\u2019s claim \u2064doubly bizarre.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMayor Koch has stated that\u2063 hate and rancor should be removed from our\u2063 hearts,\u201d Trump wrote in the\u200c May \u20631989 ad, titled \u201cBring\u200c back the death penalty and bring back\u200b our police!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not think so. I want to hate these muggers and murderers \u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, Mayor Koch, I want to hate these murderers and I always will. I am not looking to\u2064 psychoanalyze or understand them, I am looking to \u2063punish\u200d them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s \u2063worth\u200b noting that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-trump-sidesteps-question-of-apology-to-central-park-5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Central\u200c Park Five<\/a> didn\u2019t involve \u200bmurder, although Trump\u2019s \u200bad\u200d referred generally \u2064to the crime \u200cto\u200d make points about law and order \u2064in\u2064 an increasingly lawless New York City.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has never apologized for taking out \u200bthe ads: \u201cYou \u2062have\u2062 people on both sides of that,\u201d he told reporters at the White House in June of 2019, after the issue resurfaced due to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-linda-fairstein-condemns-netflix-series-on-central-park-five\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Netflix documentary<\/a> on the case which (you will not be surprised to learn) cherry-picked its facts in favor of the Central\u2064 Park Five.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey admitted their guilt,\u201d Trump said. \u201cIf you\u2063 look at Linda Fairstein and \u2062if you\u200d look at some \u2063of the prosecutors, they think that \u2062the city never should have settled\u2063 that case \u2014 \u2063so \u200bwe\u2019ll leave it \u200cat\u200d that,\u201d he \u2062added. (Fairstein was, at the time of the original trial, the head \u200bprosecutor at \u200cthe Manhattan district attorney\u2019s\u200d sex crimes unit.)<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s\u200b clear is that we\u2019ll never \u200dlikely learn the full truth \u2062of what happened\u200b that April 1989 night \u2014 and, although evidence now strongly\u200c suggests the Central \u200cPark\u2064 Five \u2062were unlikely to have played any\u2064 serious role in\u200c the \u2064brutal assault, \u2063it\u2019s also\u200d not\u200b a <a title=\"Oregon Department Of Education Drops ,000 On Nikole Hannah-Jones \u20181619 Project\u2019 Webinars\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oregon-department-of-education-drops-50000-on-nikole-hannah-jones-1619-project-webinars\/\">clear-cut case<\/a>\u200b of good kids minding their own business who\u200b happened to be in the \u2064wrong place at the wrong time.<\/p>\n<p>But, here\u2019s what you might have forgotten over\u2062 the past\u2063 few paragraphs: <em>What Donald\u2062 Trump wrote in a paid advertisement 34 years ago, the contents of which were grotesquely misrepresented\u200b by\u200d Joy Reid, <strong>has\u200d nothing to do with his guilt or innocence or whether his mug shot\u2062 was \u201cjustice.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s \u2062the\u200b beauty of Joy Reid \u2014\u2064 she says the quiet \u2064part out \u200bloud. Most liberal pundits, in cheering on the various \u200bspecious legal pursuits \u200bagainst Donald Trump, use \u200dconvoluted logic and verbal prestidigitations \u2064to disguise\u200b that what they mean by \u201cjustice\u201d is \u200binstead \u201cmy desired outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not Reid. She doesn\u2019t even feign an interest in the rule of law or\u2063 judicial\u200d norms. Why does\u200c she want a Trump mug shot?\u200c Why is she so sure\u200d he broke the law Because she\u2019s angry over an opinion he had 34 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Reid is the\u200c most inflammatory, ill-prepared, verbally unfiltered, racist firebrand on cable \u200bnews \u2014\u200c and for liberals, she\u2019s\u200d a national treasure, not in spite of it,\u200d but\u2064 <em>because<\/em> \u2062of it.<\/p>\n<p>After all these years, \u2063I\u2019m still not sure whether she\u2019s too stupid to figure out\u200c how \u200bto disguise the \u2063truth behind MSNBC\u2019s vacuous talking\u2063 points, or\u2064 too perpetually irate to remember to do it.
