She will be\u200d joined by U.S. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns.<\/p>\n<p>Raimondo spoke to President\u2062 Joe Biden on \u200dThursday about her visit and his message was enhanced dialogue \u200bwith China \u2062can ease tensions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to have \u200da stable commercial \u200crelationship, and core to \u200cthat is \u2064regular\u2064 communication,\u201d Raimondo said. <strong>\u201cWe need to communicate to avoid conflict.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Republicans in Congress have criticized the possibility Raimondo\u200b will establish a\u200c working group with China\u200b during the visit \u200bto discuss U.S. semiconductor export controls.<\/p>\n<p>Raimondo did not \u200bconfirm plans for any working group but emphasized\u200c she would tell Chinese \u2062officials <strong>\u201cwhen it comes to\u2063 national security we\u2063 don\u2019t \u200bnegotiate. \u2064We don\u2019t \u2063give concessions. We don\u2019t \u200bcompromise.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The United States is using government incentives and tax policy to wean \u2064American businesses off Chinese supply \u200bchains\u200c and ramp up U.S. semiconductor production.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust because we\u2019re investing in America does not\u2064 mean \u2063at \u200call\u2063 that we \u200bwant to decouple from \u2062China\u2019s economy,\u201d Raimondo said.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s ambassador to the\u2063 United States, Xie Feng, who\u200b met Raimondo last week, said China seeks <strong>\u201cmutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The White House this month moved to\u200d start prohibiting\u200c some U.S. investment in sensitive technologies\u200d in China and plans to soon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-commerce-chief-seeks-trade-tourism-boost-in-china-talks\/\" title=\"US Commerce Secretary aims to enhance trade and tourism during discussions in China.\">finalize sweeping export \u200brestrictions<\/a> on advanced semiconductors adopted \u200din October.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018MANY CHALLENGES\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Raimondo, the fourth high-level\u200c U.S. official to visit\u2063 China recently, is the first commerce secretary to \u200cmake the trip in seven \u200byears.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2062 spoke to more than 100 senior business leaders before the visit and vowed to\u200c raise their concerns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are so many challenges to doing \u2064business in China and exporting to China \u200cand China\u2019s unfair trading practices have hurt American workers and companies,\u201d Raimondo \u200dsaid. <\/p>\n<p>Wendy\u2062 Cutler, vice\u200d president of \u2062the Asia Society Policy Institute, said\u2063 that \u2062with a\u2062 possible\u2062 visit to \u2064the U.S. by President Xi Jinping less\u2063 than three months away, <strong>\u201cBeijing has an \u200dinterest in working \u2063with the United\u2064 States to identify practical areas in\u2063 the economic\u2064 relationship where cooperation may\u2062 be possible.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Raimondo also wants \u200bto boost travel \u2063and tourism\u200c between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>China and\u2064 the United States agreed this month to double \u200cthe \u200dnumber of flights permitted between them\u2063 \u2013 still\u2063 a\u200b fraction of the number\u2062 before the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>If China returned to 2019 U.S. tourism levels, it would add $30 billion to the U.S.\u200d economy and 50,000\u2062 U.S. jobs, Raimondo said.<\/p>\n<p>Raimondo\u200c is\u200c considering a visit\u200d to Shanghai Disneyland, a joint venture of Walt Disney \u200dand Chinese \u200bstate-owned Shendi Group, a source told Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>Another\u200c looming question is when Chinese airlines might resume taking deliveries of \u200bBoeing 737 MAX jets after\u200b a four-year hiatus.
