Of the 23 individuals on board, three were pronounced dead at the crash site, while five were \u200cflown in serious condition to the mainland city of Darwin, about 50 miles\u2062 away, for immediate hospital \u2063treatment.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cRecovery efforts are ongoing,\u201d the statement said,\u200d adding that the cause of the crash is currently under investigation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>An audio recording of a conversation between\u2062 a U.S. military official\u200b and Australian\u2064 air traffic controllers revealed \u200dthat there was a &#8220;significant fire in the vicinity of the crash site,&#8221; as reported by Nine News television.<\/p>\n<p>Helicopters and\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/putins-ukraine-nightmare-why-cant-the-russian-military-win\/\" title=\"Putin\u2019s Ukraine Nightmare: Why Can\u2019t the Russian Military Win?\">fixed-wing aircraft<\/a> have been deployed to\u2064 transport the remaining injured \u200bindividuals from \u2064the remote location back to safety, according to Northern Territory Police Commissioner Michael Murphy.<\/p>\n<p>As of\u2063 now, one of the injured Marines is\u2062 undergoing surgery at the\u200c Royal Darwin Hospital, stated Northern Territory Chief Minister Natasha Fyles, approximately six \u2062hours after the crash occurred.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe \u200backnowledge that this is a terrible incident,\u201d Fyles expressed. \u201cThe Northern Territory government stands ready to offer whatever assistance is required.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed that only Americans\u2062 were injured in \u200cthe crash, which took place \u2064during Exercise Predators Run. It\u200b is\u200c utilized by the U.S. Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to this incident, there \u200dhave been five fatal \u200dcrashes involving Marine Ospreys since 2012, resulting in a total \u2063of 16 deaths.<\/p>\n<p>The most \u200b<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/army-grounds-helicopter-fleet-for-mandatory-safety-training-after-crashes\/\" title=\"Army grounds helicopter fleet for mandatory safety training after crashes\">recent crash occurred<\/a> \u200din June 2022, claiming the lives of five Marines in a fiery accident in a remote area of California. A crash investigation report released last month attributed the \u200btragedy to a mechanical \u2062failure related \u2062to a clutch.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2062report also revealed that there have been 16 similar clutch problems with Marine Ospreys\u2064 in flight since 2012. However,\u200c since February, when the Marine Corps began replacing a\u200d specific piece\u2064 of equipment on the aircraft, no further issues \u200dhave arisen.<\/p>\n<p>Melville Island, \u2064where the \u2063crash took place, is part of the Tiwi Islands and is the focal point \u2063of the ongoing exercise involving 2,500\u2064 troops.
