The\u2062 appeal aims to have\u2063 the ban on gender transition, also known as\u2063 Senate Bill 14, \u200dback on track to take effect on September\u200b 1.<\/p>\n<p>In Texas, an appeal instantly freezes the decision, meaning\u2063 Judge Cantu \u2062Hexsel&#8217;s ruling has been put on hold pending a decision\u200b by\u2063 the Texas Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In a statement \u200con Friday,\u2062 Mr. Paxton&#8217;s office \u200dexpressed its commitment to enforcing\u2063 the laws enacted by the Texas\u2064 Legislature and protecting children from \u2063potentially harmful gender transition interventions.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Cantu Hexsel, who ran \u200bas a Democrat, had ruled in favor of a group of doctors and families of children \u200bwith gender dysphoria.\u2063 The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Texas and Lambda\u2063 Legal had sued on their behalf \u200dto challenge the law, \u200bwhich was signed by Governor Greg Abbott in June. The plaintiffs argued that the law violated parents&#8217; \u2064rights and would\u200c have devastating consequences \u200bfor \u200bgender dysphoric minors.<\/p>\n<p>The judge stated that\u200d the law&#8217;s prohibition on evidence-based treatment\u2062 for adolescents\u2064 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-missouri-judges-issue-contrasting-rulings-on-transgender-treatments-for-minors\/\" title=\"Texas and Missouri judges have issued conflicting rulings on transgender treatments for minors.\">gender dysphoria contradicted parents&#8217; fundamental<\/a> \u2062right \u2063to make decisions about their\u2064 children&#8217;s care. She\u200d also determined that the\u2062 ban would discriminate against gender\u2063 dysphoric minors and force doctors to compromise\u200d their patients&#8217;\u2063 health under threat of losing their medical licenses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The court\u2064 decision is a critical victory for \u200dtransgender youth and\u2062 their \u200dfamilies, supporters, and health providers against this blatantly unconstitutional law,&#8221; said Brian \u2062Klosterboer of the ACLU of\u200d Texas, a lawyer \u2062for the families, in a statement prior to the decision \u200bbeing stayed due \u2063to the appeal.<\/p>\n<p>Mr.\u200d Paxton&#8217;s office emphasized\u2063 that Senate Bill 14 \u200daims to prohibit hospitals \u2062from administering experimental hormones or conducting gender transition surgeries on minors. The office \u200cargued\u2062 that these medical interventions lack\u200d evidence \u200bof benefit and may have harmful effects on children&#8217;s mental and physical well-being.<\/p>\n<h2>Missouri&#8217;s Ban on Gender Transition for Minors<\/h2>\n<p>In Missouri, a\u2063 ruling by St. Louis Circuit \u200dJudge Steven Ohmer means that health care\u2063 providers will be \u200cbarred from performing transgender \u200csurgeries \u2062on minors starting August 28.<\/p>\n<p>Minors who are already on puberty blockers or hormones prior to \u200cAugust 28\u200b can continue their regimen,\u200c but new access for others\u2063 will be restricted according to Senate Bill \u200c49, signed on \u2062June 7 by Governor Mike Parson.<\/p>\n<p>The law also halts Medicaid funding \u2063for \u200cthese procedures for adults and prohibits the state from offering\u200d these surgeries to\u2062 prisoners and inmates.<\/p>\n<p>Doctors who violate the law risk losing their licenses and facing lawsuits from patients. The legislation streamlines the process for former patients to file \u2063lawsuits,\u200b offering \u200bthem a 15-year\u2064 window and ensuring \u200da minimum of $500,000\u2063 in \u200ddamages if they win.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Ohmer rejected \u200ba \u200crequest to temporarily block Missouri&#8217;s legislation as the court challenge against it plays out. He stated in his\u200d order that the petitioners had\u200d not clearly shown a sufficient\u2062 threat of irreparable injury without injunctive \u200brelief.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2063legal challenge was filed in July \u2062by ACLU of Missouri,\u200c Lambda \u200cLegal, and \u200dBryan Cave Leighton \u200cPaisner \u2064on behalf of doctors, LGBT \u2062organizations, \u200cand three families \u2063of minors with gender \u2062dysphoria. They argued that Missouri&#8217;s law is discriminatory and would\u200b cause severe \u2064and \u200cirreparable\u2064 harm to gender dysphoric minors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Withholding or restricting gender-affirming medical care from individuals with gender dysphoria when \u2064it is medically indicated puts them at\u200d risk of\u200d severe, irreversible harm to their health and \u2063well-being,&#8221; the \u200cgroups wrote in the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Ohmer wrote in\u2064 his ruling that the science and medical evidence is \u200dconflicting\u200c and unclear, and the\u200c plaintiffs&#8217; arguments were unpersuasive \u200dand unlikely \u200cto succeed.\u2064 The next hearing in the case is scheduled for September 22.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Gender-Affirming Care&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>At least 20 U.S.\u2062 states have passed \u200blaws\u2062 that protect minors from transgender surgeries and\u200b related procedures.
