The Director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), George Koob, shared with the Daily Mail that\u200b the United States could follow Canada&#8217;s approach to alcohol guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>The NIAAA&#8217;s current\u200b guidelines recommend that \u2064men up to \u200cage 65 limit themselves to \u200dtwo drinks per day, while women\u200c up to age 65 \u200bshould stick to one drink.\u2063 These recommendations, published under the U.S. Department \u200cof\u200b Agriculture&#8217;s Dietary Guidelines for Americans, are set to be reviewed in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>For &#8220;heavy&#8221; drinking limits, the NIAAA advises men\u200c to have no\u200b more than four drinks per\u200b day and 14\u2064 drinks per week. Women, on\u2063 the other hand, should not exceed three drinks per day and seven drinks\u2063 per week.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Canada&#8217;s guidelines currently suggest that people should have no \u200bmore than two drinks per week.\u200b A drink is \u200cdefined\u2062 as containing 0.6 fluid ounces of alcohol, equivalent to one beer, one glass of wine with\u200c 12\u200c percent \u2064alcohol, or\u2063 one shot of hard alcohol.<\/p>\n<h3>Health Benefits and Social Lubricant<\/h3>\n<p>George Koob expressed his belief that there are no health benefits to drinking alcohol. However, he acknowledged its social benefits, referring \u200bto it as a\u200d &#8220;social \u2064lubricant.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He further explained, &#8220;Most of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-health-czar-dietary-guidelines-should-be-like-canadas-less-beer\/\" title=\"Biden's Health Czar: Dietary Guidelines Should Mirror Canada's, Less Beer.\">benefits people attribute<\/a> to alcohol, we feel they really have more to do with\u2064 what someone&#8217;s eating\u2063 rather than what \u200dthey&#8217;re drinking. So it really has\u200c to do\u200b with \u200bthe Mediterranean diet, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ig-equity-official-used-gov-job-to-boost-her-entirely-duplicative-for-profit-firm\/\" title=\"IG: \u2018Equity\u2019 Official Used Gov Job To Boost Her \u2018Entirely Duplicative\u2019 For-Profit Firm\">socio-economic status<\/a>, that makes \u2064you \u2064able to afford \u2062that kind of diet\u200b and make your own fresh food and so forth.
