Companies that break the rules\u200c repeatedly could be banned from doing \u2064business\u200c in\u2064 the EU\u2063 entirely.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Breton&#8217;s \u200dpost was met with mostly critical reactions online.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;&#8221;Compliance\u200b isn&#8217;t \u2063punishment, it&#8217;s opportunity.&#8217; That\u200c doesn&#8217;t sound tyrannical \u200cat all. Sounds \u2064like a \u200bnormal sentence that someone who loves freedom would say,&#8221;\u200b one\u2062 user wrote, poking fun at\u2062 Mr. Breton&#8217;s\u2062 apparent doublespeak.<\/p>\n<p>Mr.\u200d Breton posted a video on X\u2062 warning that he \u2063will \u200dbe &#8220;very, very rigorous&#8221; about\u2063 enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The DSA is here, here \u200bto protect free speech\u200c against\u200c arbitrary decisions and, at the same time, to protect our citizens and\u200c democracies\u2064 against illegal content,&#8221; he \u200bsaid.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My services and I \u2064will now be very, very rigorous to check that systemic platforms comply with the DSA. We will be investigating and sanctioning them, if not the case,&#8221; Mr. Breton added.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;We \u200bDon&#8217;t Need\u2064 the Return of \u2062Fascism&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>In this\u2062 phase of implementation,\u200d the new DSA rules apply to 19 &#8220;very large&#8221; digital platforms (such as\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/babylon-bee-slams-nyt-after-being-called-far-right-misinformation-site\/\" title=\"Babylon Bee Slams NYT After Being Called \u2018Far-Right Misinformation Site\u2019\">social media networks<\/a>, websites,\u200c and \u2063online\u2062 retailers) with at least\u2063 45 million\u200d active\u200b users in the EU.<\/p>\n<p>The 19 platforms that fall under the umbrella of the new rules are: Alibaba AliExpress, Amazon Store, Apple AppStore, Bing,\u200d Booking.com,\u200d Facebook, Instagram, \u2064Google \u2064Maps, Google Play, Google Search, Google Shopping, LinkedIn, Pinterest,\u200b Snapchat, TikTok, X (formerly\u200d Twitter), Wikipedia, YouTube, and Zalando.<\/p>\n<p>None of the designated companies \u200dhave said they will disobey the the new rules, but Amazon and Zalando have argued that they shouldn&#8217;t be included on the\u200c list.
