These charges involve \u2062assisting Murdaugh in \u200cstealing millions of dollars of \u200dinsurance settlements\u200b from the sons of his deceased \u2062housekeeper.<\/p>\n<p>Fleming, 54\u2062 years old, \u200dentered his guilty plea to 23 state charges on Wednesday. The investigation into Murdaugh&#8217;s life began\u200c in June 2021\u2062 after the murders of\u2062 his wife \u2064and son, and banker \u2064Russell Laffitte was\u2062 recently\u200b sentenced to\u2064 seven years for his involvement in the theft of settlement \u200dmoney. Laffitte is currently appealing \u2063his conviction and sentence.<\/p>\n<p>While Fleming admits to knowing that Murdaugh was involving him in illegal activities, he claims that he was unaware of the full extent of his friend&#8217;s depravity.<\/p>\n<p>Murdaugh himself still\u2064 faces\u200b over \u200c100 charges in both state and federal \u200dcourts, ranging from tax\u2063 evasion\u2063 and \u2064embezzlement\u2062 to \u2063drug trafficking and attempted\u200d murder. Judge \u200bNewman has scheduled a hearing to address the status of these cases on the same \u200dday as Fleming&#8217;s sentencing.<\/p>\n<p>In \u200bthe\u2063 case\u200d involving Fleming,\u2063 the victims were \u2062Gloria Satterfield and her two sons.
