She crossed\u200b the line with a totally expressionless face as if she expected nothing else.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson\u2019s \u200ctime beat \u200cher previous best of \u200c21.45 \u2013\u2064 the championship record \u2062she set winning in Eugene last year.\u200c It also edged her closer to \u2062the late Florence Griffith-Joyner\u2019s 21.34 world record from the 1988 Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>Gabby Thomas, who came\u200b to Budapest as\u2064 the \u200dfastest in the world this year with the 21.60 that \u2063won \u2062the American \u200btrials, \u2064ran an excellent race\u2064 to take\u2063 silver in \u206421.81, but was not\u200b in the\u2063 same picture as the\u200c champion.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow American Sha\u2019Carri Richardson claimed bronze with a\u200d personal best 21.92 running in the \u200bsame lane nine from where she won \u200cgold in the 100m\u200d on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2063 feel \u2062like I am a\u2063 living testimony that you can create \u2064something if you really want it and never give up,\u201d said Jackson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYesterday \u2063I ran the curve a little bit \u2062conservative. I think\u200c I did pretty good tonight \u2013 \u200b21.41 is a\u2062 time I \u2062cannot complain about. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven\u2062 if I was pretty \u2063close \u200cto \u2063the world\u200c record\u2064 it was not\u200d the thing on my mind when I ran. \u200cI will continue to work\u200b and I\u200b hope I \u200bcan maintain at least this level\u200b and we will see if the world \u2064record will come.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wrote\u2062 a time\u2064 on my bib and it was a\u200d fast time \u2013 21.2-something. Then I wrote beside it 21.40\u200d for tonight\u200d and I got \u200dclose to that. As for\u2063 the \u2062world record \u2013\u200c I\u2019m close,\u2062 I\u2019m close, I\u2019m getting there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><h3>Record Holder<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<p>Griffith-Joyner\u2019s mark\u200d set \u2062when \u200ctesting was in its infancy is widely considered to \u200dhave been fuelled by\u200c performance-enhancing\u2064 drugs\u200b but\u2062 Jackson refused to \u200daccept it\u2064 was\u200b tainted.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if\u2063 she considered herself the\u2063 \u201creal\u201d record holder,\u200b she said: \u201cI won\u2019t question a world\u2064 record. \u200dIf a person hasn\u2019t failed a \u200dtest\u200b it\u2062 is \u2063the world record.\u2062 I am the championship\u200b record holder. I ran my\u2063 race and I stayed composed so \u200dI am happy \u2063to come out with a silver.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richardson described reaching \u2062the final \u2062of\u2064 both sprints\u2063 in her first global \u2064competition as \u201cmission \u2062accomplished\u201d but said \u201cbeing able to \u2063win the 100m and get a medal in the 200m,\u200d that\u2019s a dream come \u2062true.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe competition is only going to get hotter\u200c from here so I need to prepare \u200dmyself \u200dfor\u2062 the Olympics.
