We\u200c have found dead bodies,\u200c we have found \u2063a dead baby in these tents. We have seen people in really awful conditions,\u2064 and we are not standing\u200c for it \u2064anymore,\u201d Breed said at the rally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am sick and tired \u2062of being sick and tired,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the goal here is\u200b to make sure the Court of Appeals understands we want\u2064 a reversal of this \u2064injunction that makes it possible \u200bfor us to do our jobs,\u201d the mayor said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Mayor London Breed speaks during a rally held outside the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to demand the \u2064court overturn and injunction prohibiting the city from sweeping homeless\u2063 encampments <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sfchronicle?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@sfchronicle<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JstlKsi0WH\">pic.twitter.com\/JstlKsi0WH<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jessica Christian (@jachristian) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jachristian\/status\/1694389054513823932?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 23, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Protesters\u2064 Demand End to \u200bFederal Judge&#8217;s Order on Homeless Encampments<\/h3>\n<p>The protesters demanded an end\u200c to a federal judge\u2019s order\u2064 banning San Francisco from cleaning up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/san-francisco-mayor-joins-hundreds-of-protesters-urging-9th-circuit-to-scrap-ban-on-city-clearing-homeless-encampments\/\" title=\"SF Mayor joins protesters urging 9th Circuit to end ban on clearing homeless camps.\">homeless tent encampments<\/a> unless the city has enough shelter beds for every\u2063 homeless person.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the courthouse, the \u20649th\u200c Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments from the city\u2019s attorneys\u2063 asking the \u2063court to throw out\u2063 the temporary injunction against cleaning encampments.<\/p>\n<p>The Coalition on Homelessness, which brought the lawsuit, argued that \u200bthe restrictions on clearing encampments should remain in \u200bplace and accused the city of failing to provide adequate housing \u2064for San Francisco\u2019s homeless \u200dpopulation.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, attorneys for the city <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktvu.com\/news\/ninth-circuit-court-considering-san-franciscos-homeless-crisis#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argued<\/a> that the city has in fact offered housing to homeless residents, but they \u200coften refuse\u200b it. San Francisco\u2019s attorneys argued\u200c that the offer of housing should\u2064 count towards the mandate to provide housing and\u200b requested the injunction be lifted.<\/p>\n<p>A day before the protest, the mayor said San \u200cFrancisco has to be \u201cable \u200bto clear the streets\u201d during a\u200d meeting at the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>\u201cI get that people suffer\u2064 from\u200b mental\u200c illness,\u201d Breed said. \u201cI \u2064get they suffer from addiction. And I\u2063 know\u200d that those things\u2064 are complicated. But if we have a place for people to move, you should not be forced to just allow people to be on the sidewalk.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<h3>San Francisco&#8217;s Ongoing\u2064 Homelessness Crisis<\/h3>\n<p>This issue has come before the 9th Circuit a number of \u2062times.<\/p>\n<p>In July,\u200d the appeals court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ninth-circuit-again-refuses-to-let-west-coast-cities-remove-homeless-people-until-they-provide-shelter-for-all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">again denied<\/a> West Coast \u2062cities \u200cthe ability to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/reports-l-a-hiding-homeless-people-ahead-of-oscars\/\" title=\"Reports: L.A. hiding homeless people ahead of Oscars\">remove homeless people<\/a> from the streets unless they \u2062can provide enough shelter for all of them.<\/p>\n<p>The court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/trump-judges-oregon-ruling-homelessness-unconstitutional-1811615\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">declined<\/a> \u2062 to rehear a case\u200d involving the Oregon city of Grant\u2019s\u2062 Pass, which meant \u2064that a lower court\u2019s ruling in July 2020 against \u200dthe city remained\u2063 in effect.<\/p>\n<p>In \u2062the Oregon city case, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/aclu-targets-loudoun-county-teachers-speech-wants-them-forced-to-use-gender-affirming-pronouns\/\" title=\"ACLU Targets Loudoun County Teachers\u2019 Speech, Wants Them Forced To Use \u2018Gender-Affirming\u2019 Pronouns\">lower court ruled<\/a> that city\u200c ordinances and \u2064fines against homeless people camping in public\u2062 areas violate the \u200dEighth Amendment, which prohibits excessive\u200d punishments.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>San\u2063 Francisco has been in the throes of a homelessness crisis for \u200byears now, and it has only gotten worse since before the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>About 38,000 people <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/rising-crime-homelessness-leave-residents-of-san-francisco-and-oakland-on-edge\">are homeless<\/a> in the Bay Area on a given night. That\u2019s up\u200b 35%\u200b since 2019. More than 7,000\u2064 people\u200c are homeless in San \u2063Francisco itself.<\/p>\n<p>Crime and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/its-now-almost-impossible-to-get-arrested-for-drugs-in-washington-state\/\" title=\"It\u2019s Now Almost Impossible To Get Arrested For Drugs In Washington State\">open-air drug<\/a> use often accompanies the homeless issue, causing businesses \u2064to flee San Francisco\u2019s downtown, where foot traffic has thinned.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200d drug crisis is still \u200braging as well, although overdose deaths have dropped from\u2062 their \u200call-time high in 2020 during the thick of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, San Francisco saw 620 fatal \u200cdrug overdoses, down from 640\u200d overdose deaths in 2021.\u2064 In 2020,\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-workers-in-san-francisco-urged-to-work-from-home-due-to-crime\/\" title=\"San Francisco federal workers advised to telecommute due to crime.\">overdose \u2063deaths spiked<\/a> to 725.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>San Francisco Mayor London Breed joined 200+ protesters outside a federal courthouse, demanding an end to restrictions on clearing homeless encampments.
