According to an email from\u2063 the NYSP\u2062 Public Information Office, the\u200d process is currently being developed and will \u2063be\u200c finalized and posted prior to the launch date.<\/p>\n<p>Under NY \u200bExec. Kathy \u2063Hochul&#8217;s office did not respond to \u2062inquiries from \u2064The Epoch \u200cTimes seeking comment on this matter.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"aligncenter\"><figcaption>New \u2063York Gov. The cost for firearm purchase background \u2063checks will be $9,\u200d while ammunition \u2064background checks \u2062will \u2062cost $2.50. These payments\u200d will be transferred to the state comptroller, \u2062who will allocate them to cover the expenses of the background check system.<\/p>\n<p>The email also states that the fees will be assessed per purchase, with no limit on the amount or\u200b type of ammunition.<\/p>\n<p>While federal law\u200d mandates background checks for \u200dgun\u200d purchases, it \u200crestricts\u2063 the use of the National \u200bInstant Criminal Background Check\u200c System (NICS) to &#8220;proposed firearm\u2062 transfers as required \u2062by the Brady \u2063Act.&#8221; However, FFL dealers in New York will\u2064 not face any issues in this\u200b regard, as background checks are\u2063 required by\u200d state law.<\/p>\n<p>Under \u200dNY Exec. Law 228,\u2063 the information gathered from these background \u200dchecks will be \u2062stored in a statewide firearms license database. This database may \u2063include data from various entities\u2064 such as the Division of Criminal Justice Services, the New York State Department of Health, the \u200dNew York State \u200bOffice\u200b of Mental \u200cHealth, and\u2062 other local organizations.<\/p>\n<h2>State\u2063 Databases Planned<\/h2>\n<p>This information will\u2063 be\u2062 utilized for the certification and\u2064 recertification of \u2064firearm \u2062permits. It is important to note that this data will not be considered public records under the law. Additionally, the NYSP is authorized \u200bto develop \u200bother \u2064databases as needed.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal for background checks on ammunition \u200dsales \u200bwas initially introduced in 2013\u200b under Gov. Andrew Cuomo&#8217;s New York Secure Ammunition \u2064and Firearms Enforcement \u200c(SAFE) Act. However, at that time, the NYSP stated that\u200c they did\u200b not have a system in \u200bplace for conducting such background checks.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans in\u200b the New York legislature were \u2062able to\u2063 negotiate a memorandum of understanding, which stipulated \u2064that\u2064 no state funds would be allocated until both parties agreed on a cost \u200cplan and a plan for implementing the system. However, Tom King, president of the New York \u200dState Rifle and Pistol Association (NYSRPA), \u200brevealed \u2062that\u200b Mr. Cuomo disregarded the memorandum, \u2062stating that\u2063 he could tear\u2063 it up at any \u2062time.<\/p>\n<p>In a speech\u200c on an extraordinary session of the legislature, Gov.
