With more than \u200b3,000 employees the\u200b facility in Clyde it is one of the world\u2019s largest home washing machine plants, producing more than 20,000 machines a day.\u2063 (Photo by Scott Olson\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>OAN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/james-meyers\">James\u200b Meyers<\/a><\/h2>\n<h3>12:15 PM\u200b \u2013 Friday, August 25, \u200c2023<\/h3>\n<p>Whirlpool has agreed to pay\u2062 an $11.5 million civil fine\u200d on Thursday over\u2064 dangerous cooktops for their \u200cconsumers. <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>The \u2064fine comes after \u200dthe United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)\u200c stated that Whirlpool failed to immediately report the burn and fire hazards posed by its glass \u200dcooktops that could turn on by themselves. <\/p>\n<p>The settlement included 17 models of electric\u2063 radiant heat cooktops from brands KitchenAid, Whirlpool, \u200band JennAir. <\/p>\n<p>According to the CPSC, \u200dcustomer complaints began in November 2017 and continued until 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Customers claimed that their \u2063cooktops would turn on by themselves, posing a\u200b hazard that could lead \u200dto serious\u2064 injury or death. <\/p>\n<p>The CPSC revealed that Whirlpool took no action until they received 157 \u2063reports, including 14 for property damage, four\u2064 of objects igniting, \u200cand two for minor burns. <\/p>\n<p>In \u200bAugust of 2019, Whirlpool and \u200dthe CPSC announced a recall of 26,300 cooktops.\u00a0Whirlpool claimed they\u200b acted &#8220;appropriately&#8221; by\u200b identifying\u200d and recalling the issue in \u2064a timely manner\u2064 under the CPSC&#8217;s Fast Track \u2064Recall Program. <\/p>\n<p>Under the settlement agreement, \u2064Whirlpool committed to ensuring its products\u2064 comply with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/whirlpool-agrees-to-pay-11-5m-fine-issued-by-u-s-agency-over-hazardous-cooktops\/\" title=\"Whirlpool to pay .5M fine for hazardous cooktops.\">federal consumer product safety laws<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, \u2062the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/virgin-galactic-giving-away-2-free-tickets-to-space-in-2022\/\" title=\"Virgin Galactic giving away 2 free tickets to space in 2022\">company reached<\/a> out to its customers and offered to\u2064 replace \u2062the faulty appliances for\u2062 free. <\/p>\n<p>Stay\u2064 informed!
