There are\u200b now more people on the stage\u200b than ever. But in the age of\u2063 social media and instant\u200d analysis, does the \u200btelevised \u2063political\u2062 debate format need a reboot?<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>In Search of\u200b True Debates<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rnc-might-skip-network-tv-presidential-debates-in-2024-top-republican-says\/\" title=\"RNC Might Skip Network TV Presidential Debates In 2024, Top Republican Says\">general election debate<\/a> \u200dthat pits Democrat versus Republican, or \u200cDemocrat \u200dversus \u2064Republican versus Independent, policy usually\u200d is the focus. But\u2064 in large primary debates, it tends to be less about \u200bpolicy\u2062 and more\u200d about character and personalities. This\u2064 leads to the question: When you \u2064simultaneously\u200d put eight people on \u200ca \u2062stage, can you still call\u2063 it a debate?<\/span><span class=\"s1\">  Ryan Munce, \u2062a president and partner of the polling\u200c firm co\/efficient, who was\u200b in the audience\u2062 for the Republican\u200c debate in Milwaukee on Wednesday, told the Epoch Times the answer is \u201cno.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt kind of \u200bdoes,\u2062 in many ways, bother me that we still call them debates. They aren\u2019t. They\u2019re group interviews and I \u200creally think people \u200dwould rather see a debate,\u201d he said. \u201cIt&#8217;s an untenable exercise\u2064 to \u2063have\u2064 a debate \u2064with eight \u2063or 12 people and\u200d a silly threshold that when you \u2064need\u2062 to\u2062 have\u2063 only 1\u200c percent support in\u200b a couple\u200b of polls, that allows you to be on the national stage. It\u2062 can be watched in many different formats, diverse settings, and\u2064 via \u2063innumerable online \u200dsources. Of course, politics is not for everyone. It\u2063 is important to remember that at least two-thirds of eligible Americans fail to vote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/are-covid-case-surges-more-fake-news\/\" title=\"Are COVID Case Surges More Fake News?\">presidential election<\/a> and \u2064find politics incredibly uninteresting.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">At the beginning of these televised political spectacles, with limited television channels and no social media,\u200b these live\u2063 debates were, at times, the first opportunity for a voter to meet a\u200c candidate.\u2063 But now, with candidates \u2064all over Facebook,\u2064 Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, are\u200d voters\u2019 minds\u200c already made up\u200d before the \u200ddebates?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Post-election surveys <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/politics\/2016\/11\/21\/voters-evaluations-of-the-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s3\">conducted \u2064by Pew Research \u2064Center<\/span><\/a><\/span><span class=\"s2\">  from \u20621988 to 2020 found\u2062 that in most \u2063cases,\u2062 three-fifths or more voters\u2064 said the debates were very or somewhat helpful in deciding which candidate\u2062 to vote for. Pew\u2064 points \u2062to 1992 as the\u2064 outlier, when 70 percent of voters said the three-way debates that year \u200bbetween\u200c Bill Clinton, George H.W.
