It couldn\u2019t be the confluence of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/fpsyg.2022.872544\/full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">eco-anxiety<\/a>\u201d born from \u200dapocalyptic environmentalism, mindless scrolling on social media in \u2064spite of its ties to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2023\/jan\/01\/social-media-triggers-children-to-dislike-their-own-bodies-says-study#:~:text=The%20survey%20found%20that%2097,on%20apps%20was%203.65%20hours.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">anxiety and depression<\/a> and clear pushing\u2064 of\u2062 videos \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/business\/articles\/2022-12-14\/report-tiktok-boosts-posts-about-eating-disorders-suicide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">encouraging\u2063 eating disorders and suicide<\/a>, censored \u2062speech and\u200c uninvited speakers \u200bto\u2064 indulge the protection of \u201csafe spaces,\u201d trend-breaking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/feature\/nbc-out\/nearly-1-5-young-adults-say-they-re-not-straight-n1270003\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gender confusion<\/a> in parallel with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/22\/us\/gender-identity-students-parents.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">usurpation of parents\u2019 rights<\/a>, or the overall erosion of normalcy in society.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s \u2063a mystery.<\/p>\n<p>Yet the staggering numbers we are \u200bseeing \u200bof unhappy, not-fully-functioning \u200bteens \u200bare likely only a preview of what is to come with Gen Alpha.<\/p>\n<h2>Make \u200dWay for Gen Alpha<\/h2>\n<p>The generation after Gen Z, these\u200d babies and young kids \u200bof the pandemic, spent their formative years in a highly abnormal society. This was \u200bthe generation that was \u2064raised \u2064under the thumb \u200dof \u2063Anthony Fauci and the World Health Organization, which simplified\u2062 and suppressed the world into a\u2062 zero-sum game: either you die of\u200d Covid, or you\u2063 don\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>This youngest \u2064generation \u2063observed all new forms of unkind, unusual, and unsocial societal behaviors. \u2064They were warned to be wary of other \u2064kids in the classroom \u200dat a time when\u2063 one\u2062 of the most important inputs to their learning and development \u200bwas play. They \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/thats-a-lot-of-about-faces-and-a-lot-of-flip-flops-kayleigh-mcenany-calls-out-dr-faucis-changing-positions\/\" title=\"\u2018That\u2019s A Lot Of About-Faces And A Lot Of Flip-Flops\u2019: Kayleigh McEnany Calls Out Dr. Fauci\u2019s Changing Positions\">lost valuable time<\/a> in a classroom as \u2064teachers unions\u200c put on\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/chicago-teachers-union-panned-for-video-demanding-safe-return-to-schools-through-interpretive-dance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bizarre dances<\/a> in attempts to extend remote learning. This\u200d generation \u200dexperienced far less physical \u2063touch and lost out on the\u2064 baseline opportunities to develop face perception\u2063 for emotional connection and understanding.<\/p>\n<p>With the already extra-fragile attitudes of Gen Z, \u200bthe new paranoias and stressors imposed on\u200c Gen Alpha were not quelled\u2064 simply when\u2064 the masks came off. We are left \u2063to wonder: Are \u200cwe doomed\u2063 to a generation of socially stunted bubble babies?<\/p>\n<p>What is\u2062 clear \u2064is that the enduring consequences of Covid-era decisions on this youngest generation\u2019s\u2062 mental and emotional fitness are only\u2062 starting to bubble to the\u2062 surface. Pediatric \u200dspeech disorder diagnosis is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.contemporarypediatrics.com\/view\/pediatric-speech-disorder-diagnoses-more-than-doubled-amid-covid-19-pandemic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more than \u200cdouble<\/a> pre-pandemic levels. Math and reading scores have dropped to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcra.com\/article\/math-reading-scores-drop-to-lowest-levels-in-decades-for-13-year-olds-in-us\/44292823\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the lowest in\u200d decades<\/a>.\u200b Scientific understanding of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4165613\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">irreversible<\/a> effects\u200d of social isolation on \u200bthe prefrontal \u2064cortex has been hushed\u200b away.<\/p>\n<p>Even so, it would be nice to believe it isn\u2019t\u200c too\u200b late to change course. Better\u200c paths\u2062 are always \u200davailable, one must simply \u2062acknowledge straying off course.<\/p>\n<p>But it would seem that governments\u200b across the \u200bworld \u200dtoday, the U.S. sadly being no\u200d exception to the trend, are\u2062 fixated on a path that\u200b purports \u201cequity\u201d and \u201cfairness,\u201d but in\u2063 fact promises further\u200c instability, less individual autonomy, and more government \u200dcontrol. People who are rich \u2014 happiness-rich, ideas-rich, energy-rich, food-rich \u2014 those\u200c people are difficult to control.<\/p>\n<p>But if you are \u2064food-poor, energy-poor, and\u2064 \u2014\u200d arguably the\u2062 most important of all resources \u2014 happiness-poor,\u2063 what is\u200d left to support you from falling?<\/p>\n<p>The mind \u2064is the last bastion of human freedom.<\/p>\n<p>We \u200bneed to be more\u2063 than wary of these\u2063 trends.
