From Oct. 1, 2023\u2014when repayment resumes\u2014through Sept. 30, 2024, borrowers who miss \u200dtheir monthly payments \u200dwill not be considered delinquent, reported to\u200c credit bureaus, placed in default, or referred to debt collection agencies.<\/p>\n<p>But for congressional Democrats, that measure was not enough\u200d to assuage their concerns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we \u200bunderstand your \u200badministration\u2019s \u200befforts in providing\u200c a 12-month \u2018on-ramp\u2019 starting on October 1, 2023, to protect borrowers during the transition to repayment, we remain gravely \u200bconcerned about the Department of Education\u2019s\u200d projections that without additional relief, student debt delinquencies and defaults will spike once repayment resumes,\u201d\u2063 the lawmakers wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department\u2064 of Education should work to ensure that implementation of the final rule to provide debt relief does not happen after the 12-month on-ramp ends in an effort to further \u2062reduce the risk of delinquency and default,\u201d they added, urging\u2063 the president to use his authority to \u201chelp borrowers as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u200b letter came one day after the Biden administration announced it was rolling\u200d out a new income-driven <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/biden-pushes-new-student-loan-repayment-plan-weeks-after-supreme-court-rejection-5478287\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">student loan repayment plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the White House, the Saving on A Valuable Education \u200b(SAVE) plan calculates payments based on a borrower\u2019s \u200cincome and family size instead \u200cof their loan balances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe SAVE Plan is a game-changer,\u201d Education Secretary Miguel Cardona told reporters on an Aug. 22 call. \u201cTake a nurse\u200c earning $7<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dozens of Democrats are pressuring President Biden to fulfill his pledge of student loan debt relief as interest accruals are set to restart.
