This law applies to\u200d all stages of the hiring\u200c process, including recruitment and interviews.<\/p>\n<p>While illegal immigrants are granted asylum or\u200d refugee status, which allows them to stay in the country indefinitely, \u200bthey do not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-build-back-better-budget-includes-amnesty-for-at-least-7m-illegal-aliens\/\" title=\"Biden's 'Build Back Better' Budget Includes Amnesty for at Least 7M Illegal Aliens\">receive green cards<\/a>.\u2064 On\u200b the other\u200b hand, immigrants who become lawful permanent residents are issued green cards.<\/p>\n<p>Elon Musk,\u2063 CEO of \u2063SpaceX, has previously stated that the company only hires \u2064citizens or\u2064 individuals with permanent status. He cited U.S. law and the International \u200cTraffic \u200din Arms Regulations as \u200cthe reasons behind these \u200chiring requirements.<\/p>\n<p>However, the new lawsuit claims \u2063that SpaceX&#8217;s understanding of \u200bthe law was incorrect and that its application of the hiring requirements \u2064was illegal.<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX, known for manufacturing rockets that have transported astronauts to the International Space Station, has received billions \u200cin government contracts. (Chandan Khanna\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Actions by \u2064Recruiters and Officials<\/h2>\n<p>The government&#8217;s investigation revealed that SpaceX \u200drecruiters consistently informed job candidates that the company could only hire U.S. citizens or \u200bpermanent residents due to U.S. Export Compliance regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Job announcements and the\u200c company&#8217;s application process \u2063also indicated that only individuals \u200dwith U.S. citizenship or refugee\/asylee status were eligible to apply.<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX&#8217;s\u2062 system had codes that allowed officials to reject \u2064candidates who were unauthorized to work or ineligible \u2062under \u2064the regulations. These rejection codes were used repeatedly for years, resulting in the exclusion of qualified individuals.<\/p>\n<p>For \u2063example, an engineer who graduated from the Georgia Institute of \u2063Technology was rejected based on their \u2063lack of citizenship or a green card, despite meeting the basic qualifications.<\/p>\n<p>From September 1, 2018, to September 30, 2020, SpaceX only hired\u200c U.S. citizens and permanent residents, with\u2064 only one asylee being hired before May 2022.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Aug. 24, the Biden administration filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk&#8217;s company, accusing it of discriminating against immigrants.
