Johnson warns of resurgence in COVID-19 mask mandates.\">schools \u2063reinstated mask mandates<\/a> in recent days.<\/p>\n<p>Describing the mandates as &#8220;alarming,&#8221; Mr. Johnson told the Moms for Liberty group on Aug. 23 that they are \u200bineffective and said he would keep fighting them.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s alarming that the mandates are kicking in again,&#8221; he told the group. &#8220;It&#8217;s like, OK, we noticed masks\u200c didn&#8217;t work, particularly for children. He\u2062 also called on the Biden administration to admit that its COVID-19 policies didn&#8217;t work.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They&#8217;ll never admit they\u2062 were wrong in how they handled COVID. \u2062I\u200b don&#8217;t \u200bsee how anybody can take a look at how the \u2062federal government\u2014really, over the course of two administrations\u2014how they handled COVID, and say it was anything but a complete and miserable failure,&#8221; he told \u200bthe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/johnson-quiet-covid-emergency-end-biden-guilt-pandemic-policies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington Examiner<\/a> in May.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The White \u2062House, the senator added, won&#8217;t acknowledge\u200d what he \u200ddescribed as the &#8220;the incalculable human toll&#8221; and \u2062the &#8220;economic devastation caused by the shutdowns.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Johnson&#8217;s recent remarks \u2064come\u200c after Hollywood studio Lionsgate said in a memo earlier this \u2063week\u2064 that it would reimpose\u2064 a mask mandate for several floors of its office in Santa Monica, \u2062California.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmployees must wear \u200ca <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lionsgate-studio-re-enacts-covid-19-mask-mandate\/\" title=\"LionsGate Studio enforces COVID-19 mask rule.\">medical grade face covering<\/a> (surgical mask,\u2064 KN95 \u200dor \u200dN95) when indoors except when alone \u2063in an \u2064office with the door closed, actively eating, actively drinking at their\u200b desk\u200c or workstation, or if they are the only \u2063individual\u2064 present in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lionsgate-film-studio-reinstates-mask-mandates-effective-immediately-until-further-notice\/\" title=\"Lionsgate Film Studio brings back mask mandates 'immediately' and 'until further notice'.\">large open workspace<\/a>,\u201d a Lionsgate manager said in a memo, reported by Deadline.<\/p>\n<p>This week, Kaiser Permanente Hospital \u2064in Santa \u2064Rosa, California, and the Upstate Community Hospital in Syracuse, New York, brought back the masking rule\u2064 for \u200cvisitors,\u200b patients, nurses, and doctors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To ensure that we are helping protect the health and safety of our \u200bpatients, our workforce, and our community, we have reintroduced a mask mandate for physicians, staff, patients, members, and\u2063 visitors in the hospital and medical offices in the Santa Rosa Service Area,&#8221; Kaiser Permanente said.<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>A nurse at a hospital as seen in a file photo. (Nathan Howard\/Getty \u200dImages)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Morris\u2063 Brown College in Atlanta also said that masks will again be required on campus because of a rise in cases on a larger campus in Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There will be no parties or large\u2064 student events on campus for the next two weeks,&#8221; the school <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CwLcj0qAeWZ\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;ig_rid=784b24de-4488-40b1-ae29-83312bb9dfcf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, there has been an increase in media coverage \u200cof several COVID-19 variants, including one that the U.S.\u2062 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated could potentially evade vaccines. No \u200bfederal agencies have announced\u2063 any\u2062 new mask \u200bmandates\u2062 or\u200c recommendations.<\/p>\n<h2>Media Coverage<\/h2>\n<p>In recent days, an increasing number \u200dof television doctors \u200dhave made suggestions that some people start masking again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s riskier that you will get \u200binfected now than it was a month or \u2063two ago, without question, \u2064probably twice as risky,\u201d Dr. Bob Wachter, chair of medicine at the University\u2062 of \u200dSan Francisco, told CNN in a recent interview. \u200b\u201cIf you\u2019re\u200d trying to be careful, it\u2019s time to whip out the mask again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also appearing \u200bon \u2063CNN, Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a\u200c cardiologist in Washington, \u2064said \u200con Aug. 22 that people who are at risk from a COVID-19 infection\u2014including people aged 65 \u200dand older\u2014should put masks on again. He also said \u2062that President Joe Biden should do so, too.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Octogenarians\u200d comprise the highest-risk group for complications following COVID infection,&#8221; he said. &#8220;At least until the numbers\u200c start\u200b to drop again, \u2063it \u2063would be appropriate for Pr<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>up again,&#8221; said Sen.
