At \u2064an Aug. 23 press \u2063conference, local \u200belected leaders revealed that the MTA will be allocating\u200c $100 million to build two new one-mile-long tracks on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/china-imposes-local-ban-on-anti-cough-drugs-locks-down-city-of-10-million-over-coronavirus\/\" title=\"China Imposes Local Ban on Anti-Cough Drugs, Locks Down City of 10+ Million over Coronavirus\">metro line<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These new tracks, known as passing\u2062 sidings, will \u200dnot only allow\u200c for two-way train traffic but also enhance train services for residents in\u200c Orange \u2062and Rockland counties. James Skoufis, along \u2063with state Assemblymen Kenneth\u2062 Zebrowski and Chris Eachus, \u2063made the exciting announcement in front\u2063 of the Harriman \u200bTrain Station.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Skoufis emphasized that this investment from the MTA is the result of years of advocacy and\u200c signifies a renewed commitment to the\u200c communities west of the Hudson River. These communities have long supported the\u2064 MTA \u2062through fees\u2064 and \u2062taxes but\u200d have received \u200cminimal services in return.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the \u2064last couple of years in particular, the MTA has really taken a\u200b new posture and\u200c renewed a partnership with a number of\u200d us in the state legislature,&#8221; said Sen. Skoufis.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the passing sidings, \u2062the Orange and Rockland\u2062 communities\u200b have also been exempted from an MTA fare hike and a payroll tax raise.<\/p>\n<p>Assemblyman Eachus highlighted that a more\u2064 active Port Jervis Line will drive the\u200c development\u200c of the entire region,\u2064 including the Stewart\u200b International Airport. Village \u200bof Woodbury\u200b Mayor Andrew Giacomazza and Town of Woodbury Supervisor Thomas Burke also expressed their support for the positive progress made by the MTA.<\/p>\n<p>This investment in new tracks comes at\u200b a crucial time for the MTA, as it has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/100-million-earmarked-for-new-double-tracks-on-port-jervis-line\/\" title=\"0M allocated for new double tracks on Port Jervis Line.\">recently \u2062received significant state \u2064assistance<\/a> to\u200d address its financial challenges. Without intervention, these challenges were projected to reach $600 million by the\u200b end of 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2064 state&#8217;s rescue measures include $300 million\u200d in one-time\u2064 aid, up to $413 million in casino tax revenues, and higher payroll mobility taxes for large New York City businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The state budget (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.budget.ny.gov\/pubs\/archive\/fy24\/ex\/cp\/fy24cp-ex.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) also allocates $6.6 billion\u2063 for MTA capital projects, such as improving\u2062 signal technology, enhancing accessibility, and upgrading bus services.<\/p>\n<p>With this support, the MTA is expected to operate on a balanced budget through 2027.<\/p>\n<h2>One-Seat Ride<\/h2>\n<p>During the press conference, \u2064<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/no-spike-in-florida-coronavirus-cases-despite-no-mask-mandate\/\" title=\"No Spike in Florida Coronavirus Cases Despite No Mask Mandate\">local leaders<\/a> also \u2063provided updates on the ongoing \u200ceffort to \u200destablish a one-train ride from the Port Jervis Line to New York City.
