However, the lawsuit claims that\u2064 this policy, referred to\u2062 as a &#8220;Reverse Race Discrimination Policy,&#8221; resulted \u200bin the exclusion of white\u200d males and the\u2064 forced removal of existing white\u2062 employees.<\/p>\n<p>The five \u2063plaintiffs have filed a civil complaint\u200b seeking a class action lawsuit on behalf of themselves \u2063and\u2063 others affected by\u2063 Gannett&#8217;s\u2063 hiring practices.<\/p>\n<h3>Lead Plaintiff&#8217;s Experience<\/h3>\n<p>According to\u200b the complaint, \u200dlead plaintiff Steven Bradley had worked for the Gannett publication Democrat and\u200d Chronicle in Rochester, New York, for 21\u200b years. When the company introduced its new newsroom demographics \u200bpolicy, Bradley \u200balleges that he was forced out of his position \u200bsolely based on his race.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint states, &#8220;There can be no question that Mr. Bradley\u2019s termination was directly based on his race and resulted from\u2063 the Reverse Race \u200dDiscrimination Policy. For example, the Democrat and \u2062Chronicle\u2019s executive\u200d editor commented that he decided to\u200c terminate Mr. Bradley\u2019s employment \u2062rather than \u200canother worker, Mark \u200cLiu, because Mr. Liu \u2063was Asian and Mr. Bradley was White.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>During\u200c the same\u2063 period, another non-minority member of \u200cthe Democrat and Chronicle&#8217;s sports team, \u200cwho\u200b had been \u2063with\u200b the team for 37 years, was also reportedly terminated, while no non-minority members of\u200c the sports writing staff were\u200d forced out.<\/p>\n<h3>Discrimination in\u200d Hiring Decisions<\/h3>\n<p>After leaving\u200b the Democrat and \u200cChronicle, Bradley applied for\u200c a position \u2062at another Gannett news division in New York. He completed three interviews \u200cand was informed that he was one\u200b of two\u200c top contenders for the role. However, the publication ultimately hired a black female candidate with\u200d fewer\u200d qualifications.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit also alleges that\u2063 the Gannett employee\u2062 responsible for\u2064 talent recruitment and retention at the time of the policy&#8217;s \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gannett-accused-of-discriminating-against-white-employees-with-racial-quotas\/\" title=\"Gannett faces discrimination allegations for implementing racial quotas against white employees.\">implementation instructed managers<\/a> not to hire any more straight white males.<\/p>\n<h3>Barbara \u200bAugsdorfer&#8217;s\u2062 Experience<\/h3>\n<p>Another plaintiff, Barbara Augsdorfer, had been working for Gannett&#8217;s Savannah Morning News for\u200b six months when the publication hired a black woman as its new \u200dexecutive editor. The lawsuit claims that the\u200b new editor actively sought to change the paper&#8217;s demographics.<\/p>\n<p>Augsdorfer,\u200b who had been covering the education beat,\u2064 was \u2062unexpectedly transferred to cover\u200c two local \u200ccounties. Despite expressing a desire to continue covering education,\u2063 she \u200cwas told that the \u2064reassignment was necessary.
