Santa Barbara<\/h3>\n<p>Sex guru,\u2064 astrologist, and psychologist Jennifer Freed \u2062is the \u200bfounder of <a href=\"https:\/\/ahasb.org\/about-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AHA! Santa Barbara<\/a>, a poster child of \u201csocial emotional learning,\u201d the newest fad in K-12 education. Her local California education non-profit won a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.townandcountrymag.com\/society\/tradition\/a43891929\/prince-harry-meghan-markle-santa-barbara-youth-group-photos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> \u200d high-profile visit<\/a> in May from Prince \u200bHarry and Meghan Markle to herald its purported mental health \u200bbenefits for \u2062youth.<\/p>\n<p>A woman told The Daily Wire this \u200dmonth that Freed encouraged her<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/woman-abused-as-teen-says-schools-social-emotional-learning-guru-pressed-her-to-drop-charges-because-her-teacher-assailant-was-black\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> not to press charges<\/a> against a teacher who assaulted her when she was \u2062a minor. Now, \u200ba \u200dreview of Freed\u2019s past writing suggests\u2064 that it may \u2062be part of a pattern.<\/p>\n<h3>A Questionable \u2064Philosophy on \u2063Young Girls&#8217; Sexuality<\/h3>\n<p>In a 2003 graduate \u2063school dissertation written for the Pacifica Graduate \u2063Institute, \u2062Freed casts light on her philosophy regarding\u200b the sexuality of young girls, as well as laws designed to protect them from sexual predators. In the dissertation, obtained\u2062 by The Daily\u200c Wire, Freed argues against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/social-emotional-learning-guru-may-have-concealed-sex-abuse-while-pushing-young-teens-to-enjoy-sex\/\" title=\"'Social Emotional Learning' Expert Allegedly Hid Sex Abuse While Encouraging 'Young Teens' to Embrace Sexual Experiences\">laws requiring mental health professionals<\/a> to report certain crimes based on the age of sexual partners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the State of\u2063 California it \u2062is reportable as child abuse for a minor 13 years or under to have sexual relations with anyone 14 years or older,\u201d Freed writes. \u201cThis type of statute may not encourage\u2064 some young women to come forward\u200c about their young sexual experiences. I believe that legislating sexual activity among minors may prevent crucial dialogue \u200cbetween youth and adults.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the\u200d more than 300-page\u2063 dissertation,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.proquest.com\/docview\/305228969\/abstract\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> After Sex? A Study Of Young Female Teens,<\/a> Freed interviews \u200dfour girls who had sex\u2063 with older\u2063 boys when they were between the\u2064 ages of twelve and fifteen. She reveals that her own positive sexual experiences as \u2063a teen gave her a \u2062\u201cfertile passion\u201d for\u200c talking about sex with youth \u2014 \u2064she recounts that having sex before she was in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/theyre-all-pedophiles-singer-alanis-morissette-says-multiple-men-had-sex-with-her-when-she-was-just-15\/\" title=\"\u2018They\u2019re All Pedophiles\u2019: Singer Alanis Morissette Says Multiple Men Had Sex With Her When She Was Just 15\">junior high school<\/a> was a religious \u200dexperience.<\/p>\n<h1><b>Controversial Statements and \u200bQuestionable Guidance<\/b><\/h1>\n<p>Freed said she entered the conversations with \u2062girls as young as twelve wondering how their male sexual partners \u201ctaste.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEntering junior high school\u2026 we slowly progressed \u2064to genital play, where \u2063we delighted in the miracles of our \u2064mutual arousal,\u201d she recalls. \u201cWhen we were joined as one, my skin and\u200d sex were holy places, and he \u2062was the \u2018body of Christ.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Freed says she wants to be a guide to help \u201cyoung teens\u201d attain\u2064 that same\u2062 mystical experience. And she has ascended to the national stage \u2062to do so, through connections such as \u200ca close friendship with <a href=\"https:\/\/goop.com\/the-goop-podcast\/gwyneth-paltrow-x-jennifer-freed-a-map-to-your-soul\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gweneth Paltrow.<\/a> Her astrology-based self-help\u200d book, A Map To \u200dYour\u200b Soul, is sold on Paltrow\u2019s website alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/05\/23\/gwyneth-paltrow-peddles-goop-anal-sex-toy-as-fathers-day-gift\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anal sex toys<\/a> \u2062and candles scented like Paltrow\u2019s\u2062 vagina,\u2063 and currently <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/OgCjj#selection-42625.0-42628.0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tops the\u200d non-fiction bestseller list<\/a> in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>All of the teens Freed interviewed for her \u2063dissertation outlined some level of apparent criminal conduct,\u200b but there is no indication that Freed\u2064 reported it to authorities. At the time, she was a\u2064 mandatory reporter who had \u201cbeen working as \u2063an educator and psychotherapist for teenagers for the last 25 \u200byears,\u201d she discloses.<\/p>\n<p>The dissertation included transcripts of the interviews,\u2062 and all four described \u2064strongly regretting having sex at a young age. But Freed\u2064 asserted that they secretly enjoyed it and culture was\u200b to\u2062 blame. They \u201cseemed\u2062 reluctant to admit their desires, as if that made \u200cthem less acceptable,\u201d her dissertation concluded. \u201cMost \u200bgirls\u2063 have counter narratives to\u200b disguise their own desires, and protect themselves from social judgment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Freed, \u2063the \u2063transcripts show, attempted to steer them \u2063to treat their experiences \u200bas positive, including one girl who told \u200cFreed she was raped.<\/p>\n<p>A \u200dsecond interviewee, who was 14 at the time of the interview, told Freed that\u200c at the age of \u206212, \u200cshe lost her virginity to a 16-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I\u2019m 12 years old, I\u2019m making love with this guy. Was it a positive thing for you socially? \u2026. It\u2019s like you got your soul back being with him?\u201d Freed\u2063 asked. When the girl said \u201cuh huh,\u201d Freed said \u201cThat\u2019s great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The girl said she regretted the experience and that if she were an\u200b adult guiding a 12-year-old in her position, \u201cI definitely would say don\u2019t be sexual,\u201d the girl said. But Freed steered her \u2064back \u2063to an affirming view of \u200cunderage sex.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me ask you this. In an ideal world, \u200chow do you \u2063think a girl should be treated if she falls\u2063 in love and has sex before the age of 14?\u201d she asked. \u201cHow do you think parents should be around this, \u2019cause that\u2019s like the biggest thing. There are so many girls now that\u2062 are\u200d having\u2063 sex before 14 and some of \u2062them really enjoying it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the girl didn\u2019t take the bait, saying many of her peers regret it. Freed challenged her to imagine that \u201cwe didn\u2019t live in a culture that made girls feel ashamed of sex,\u201d but the girl said that was not\u200d the \u2062issue. \u201cAt that age it\u2019s really not as great as you think it is,\u201d \u200bthe girl reiterated.<\/p>\n<h1>Questionable Guidance and\u200b Disturbing Questions<\/h1>\n<p>A third teen, 18 \u200cat\u200c the time of the interview, described being raped by a 19-year-old when she was 15 years old while she \u2062was drunk\u200b at a party. Again, Freed focused on the potential\u2064 for pleasure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd did you enjoy \u2064the sexual relationship or how was it for you? I\u200d mean were \u200byou aware\u2064 of your own desire?\u201d Freed asked. \u201cDid he know what he\u2062 was doing? Like was \u2062he a good \u200clover?<\/p>\n<p>The girl said that as a result of her experience, she \u2063now believes sex at a young age is \u201ca \u2063bad thing to do\u201d\u2062 and she thinks young\u200b people should only do it \u201cwhen you\u2019re married.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Freed seemed to try to convince her otherwise, saying \u201cwhat\u200d do you think \u200babout people \u200cthat say \u2063it\u2019s \u200bgood\u200b to have a\u200b lot \u2063of experience\u200c before you\u2062 get married so you don\u2019t get bored when \u2063you\u2019re married?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A fourth teen, 17 during the interview, described being 13 and losing her virginity \u2063to a 15-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid\u200b you learn a lot about \u2064sex?\u201d Freed asked. After the girl told \u2062Freed\u200b that sex has \u201cbecome a little bit of a \u2064problem\u201d for her, Freed said\u200b \u201cYou love\u200d the physical part of it\u2026 that\u2019s \u200cbeen real positive for you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said, \u201cWell, yeah,\u200c but\u200c it has caused a lot of problems,\u201d including a sexually transmitted disease. \u201cI wasn\u2019t ready,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Freed seemed to suggest that more experience \u2063could help. \u201cHow would \u2063you get to\u200d know yourself well?\u201d Freed\u2062 asks. \u201cDo you think you\u2019ve gotten\u2064 a lot more mature and wise kind of because you did \u200dso much early?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The girl repeatedly said she had \u201cregrets,\u201d but Freed concluded for her:\u200d \u201cNow you\u2019re still really enjoying sex, but it\u2019s with somebody that you\u2019re very committed to?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe actual sex \u200bI usually\u200b don\u2019t [enjoy] that much,\u201d the girl answered.<\/p>\n<p>Freed acknowledges in conclusion that \u200dthe \u2063girls\u2019 testimony did not support the purpose of her thesis and her \u200ccareer: the idea that children\u2019s lives would be better if\u200d they had an adult with \u2062whom they discussed\u200d the intimate details \u2063of their sexual liaisons. \u201cMost girls were somewhat unclear about what would have been helpful to them. It was \u200cas if\u2064 their right to have help was a new idea \u2063to them,\u201d\u200b she \u2063wrote.<\/p>\n<p>She\u200d asserted, however, without citing any examples, that her research\u200c showed the need for\u2063 \u201cAn affirmation of female sexual\u2064 power and desire\u201d and an \u201cattitude of openness and acceptance regarding young female sexuality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Freed declined an interview request from The\u200c Daily Wire, and stated that she has followed all rules on reporting \u2063sexual abuse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs \u200ba \u2063mandated reporter I have followed all rules and regulations in reporting child abuse. All cases are confidential.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nothing in the\u200d 336-page \u200bdissertation gives any suggestion that Freed viewed the stories as something to be reported\u200c to authorities, and it also includes follow-up reflections \u2064from the \u200dinterviewees a month \u200blater, which\u200d give\u2062 no impression that they were\u200d visited by authorities as \u200da result.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWow this was interesting. I forgot about \u2062everything we had talked about,\u201d one interviewee said.<\/p>\n<p>One\u200b woman who was involved with Freed and AHA! Santa Barbara as a high school\u2063 student told The Daily Wire Freed pushed her not to \u200breport a teacher to authorities after\u200d he bit her ear and touched her butt, \u200burging her to consider a \u201crestorative approach instead of\u2062 going to authorities\u201d because the teacher\u2064 was a black\u200d man. Freed\u200b denied to The Daily Wire that this ever happened. The teacher\u2013whose wife \u2062sits on the board of \u200can AHA funder\u2013was ultimately convicted and fired.<\/p>\n<p>Freed\u2019s organization, AHA!
