These \u200dwildfires have tragically claimed\u200b the lives of\u200d over 100 individuals.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;We saw the devastation that happened in Maui,&#8221; McCarthy expressed \u2063his concern. &#8220;I\u2019m very concerned about the \u2062response. According to the County of Maui&#8217;s update on Aug. 23,\u2062 confirmed fatalities rose to\u2063 115,\u2063 making it the nation&#8217;s deadliest wildfire in more \u2062than a century.<\/p>\n<p>While the exact \u200cnumber of missing individuals is unclear, reports suggest\u2062 that over \u200d1,000 remain unaccounted for in the wake \u200bof\u2064 the \u200ddisaster.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHow\u200c could we lose that many Americans\u200c in today\u2019s age?&#8221; Mr. McCarthy questioned.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The \u2064federal response seems\u2062 very delayed. However, she mentioned that the president has been\u2064 in\u200d contact with the White House pool reporters and the\u200d Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) chief, Deanne Criswell.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou all\u2064 have gotten pool reports on who the president has \u200bconnected with,\u201d Ms. Jean-Pierre\u2063 said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The [FEMA] Administrator was there for two whole days\u2014two whole days on \u2062the\u200d ground, by the President\u2019s request, to \u2064make sure that \u2062the government\u200b has what they have\u2014the local government has what\u200b they have, the people of Maui have\u200b what they have.
