The United States government denied the accusations \u200bof espionage \u2064that were made by the Russian court, saying that \u2063the\u2064 reporter was wrongfully detained.<\/p>\n<p>His trial was set to begin at the end of May, two months after he was arrested, but his pretrial\u200b detention was extended at the time until August\u200b 30<sup>th<\/sup>. \u2063  <\/p>\n<p>The Lefortovo Court extended the \u2062pretrial detention once\u2062 again by\u2062 three \u2063months until November\u200b 30<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The Wall \u2064Street \u2062Journal released a statement after\u200b the decision was made saying that the organization was \u201cdeeply disappointed\u201d and that the allegations against him were false.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cToday, our colleague \u200band distinguished journalist Evan Gershkovich appeared \u200dfor \u200da pre-trial hearing where his improper \u2063detention was extended \u200cyet again,\u201d the Journal said. \u201cWe\u200d are deeply \u200ddisappointed\u2064 he continues to be\u200d arbitrarily and wrongfully detained for doing his job as a journalist. The baseless accusations against him are categorically false, and we \u200ccontinue to push for his immediate release. Journalism is\u200b not a crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The\u2062 extension was\u200b announced after the request was made by Russian investigators.\u00a0During a closed\u200b hearing on Thursday, the court \u200chad ruled that \u200bthe Federal Security Service (FSB) would be able to keep the 31-year-old \u200dreporter detained until his\u2063 new trial date on November 30<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The Wall Street Journal, along with the U.S. government have called on the Russian government to \u2062release Gershkovich who was\u200c arrested in the Russian \u200ccity of Yekaterinburg, about 1,100 miles east of Moscow.<\/p>\n<p>The reporter is currently\u2064 being held at \u2064Moscow\u2019s Lefortovo Prison which is\u2063 infamous for its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/russia-court-extends-detainment-of-evan-gershkovich\/\" title=\"Russian court extends detention of Evan Gershkovich.\">extremely harsh conditions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2062prison has held other high profile inmates such as Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the Sovient dissident who is known for writing <em>The Gulag\u2062 Archipelago,<\/em> several plotters of\u200d the failed 1991 coup against \u200bSoviet President Mikahil Gorbachev, and most recently, former U.S.\u200c Marine Paul Whelan, who is also being held on espionage chargers.<\/p>\n<p>Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2062 and \u200bRussian government authorities have \u2063made no \u200dcomments in regards to the detention\u2062 of Gershkovich.<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
