Tennessee has reported\u200d the highest number of cases, with six.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This outbreak may not be\u2063 limited to \u2063the states with\u200c known illnesses, and\u2064 the \u200btrue number of affected \u2062individuals is likely higher than reported,&#8221; the CDC\u200d noted. &#8220;Many \u2063people recover without <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/chauvin-takes-george-floyd-murder-conviction-appeal-to-u-s-supreme-court-report\/\" title=\"Chauvin appeals George Floyd murder conviction to U.S. Supreme Court: Report\">medical \u200bcare<\/a> and are not tested\u200c for Salmonella.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Understanding Salmonella<\/h2>\n<p>Salmonella infection is\u2063 a common bacterial disease that affects the intestinal\u2062 tract and can cause a range of symptoms, including stomach cramps, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), vomiting, fever, and signs of dehydration \u2062such as infrequent urination, dry mouth\u200d and \u2062throat,\u200d and dizziness upon standing up.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u2062 the CDC, symptoms of salmonella infection typically appear between 6 hours to 6 days after exposure to\u2063 the bacteria.<\/p>\n<p>Most people recover without treatment within four to seven days. However,\u2064 young children, adults\u2063 over 65 years\u2062 old, and individuals \u200dwith weakened\u200d immune systems may <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/salmonella-outbreak-in-11-states-prompts-cdc-alert-against-small-turtles\/\" title=\"CDC warns against small turtles due to Salmonella outbreak in 11 states.\">experience severe symptoms requiring \u200bmedical\u200b intervention<\/a> or \u200dhospitalization.<\/p>\n<p>If the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/alexander-hornung-recalls-2-3m-pounds-of-pork-over-listeria-concerns\/\" title=\"Alexander &#038; Hornung Recalls 2.3M Pounds of Pork over Listeria Concerns\">infection spreads<\/a> \u200dbeyond the intestines, it can \u200bbecome \u2063life-threatening.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2062CDC emphasizes that individuals can contract salmonella by \u200btouching a turtle or its environment and subsequently touching their mouth or\u2062 handling food without proper handwashing.<\/p>\n<p>The agency \u2064advises\u2064 people to wash their hands after \u2064feeding or handling pet turtles and \u2062to avoid kissing the turtles\u2063 or eating in their vicinity.<\/p>\n<h2>Federal Law Prohibits Small Turtles as Pets<\/h2>\n<p>Under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/waffle-arizona-house-speaker-claims-they-cant-enforce-constitution-wont-commit-to-calling-legislative-hearing\/\" title=\"WAFFLE: Arizona House Speaker Claims They Can\u2019t Enforce Constitution, Won\u2019t Commit To Calling Legislative Hearing\">federal law<\/a>, turtles with\u2064 shells shorter than 4 inches (10.16 centimeters) are banned from being \u2062sold or distributed as pets.<\/p>\n<p>This prohibition exists because\u200b &#8220;they have caused many illnesses, especially in young children,&#8221; the CDC \u2062stated.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite the federal ban, these small turtles can sometimes be found through online sources, as well as various \u200bstores, flea markets, \u2063and roadside stands, warns the CDC.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Pet turtles of any size can\u2062 carry Salmonella germs in their droppings, even if they appear\u2063 healthy and clean.
