But if you\u2019re married\u200c with an employed spouse, maybe not.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2029664688\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-adbbb2db2b03307ef7426fb84bbb46fb fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-adbbb2db2b03307ef7426fb84bbb46fb\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.care.com\/c\/how-much-does-child-care-cost\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According to\u200d Care.com<\/a>, the average \u200dcost of \u2063full-time, center-based infant daycare in 2023 is $1,136 per month. That\u2019s <em>per child. <\/em>To\u2064 help solve this problem, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bankrate.com\/finance\/credit-cards\/average-cost-of-childcare-in-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">finance blogger<\/a> Ivana Pino suggests six ways to lower \u2062the costs \u2063of \u2063childcare \u2014 none of which is helpful and one of which includes using debt! Practical suggestions such as relocating to a cheaper area \u200bof the country or moving\u200b closer to family didn\u2019t make the\u200c list.<\/p>\n<p>But the most glaring omission is the option for\u2062 a parent to stay home. Why not forgo \u2062the childcare expense altogether and use that money to ease a family\u2019s financial burdens?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=iDPFu9-SqFk&#038;t=8s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">In my\u2064 recent YouTube video on\u2062 daycare<\/a>, one commenter conceded that his wife\u2019s entire paycheck goes to pay for daycare. Her <em>entire<\/em> paycheck!<\/p>\n<p>That may be an extreme example, but it \u200bis nevertheless true that<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/08\/07\/how-to-save-on-child-care-as-costs-are-high.html#:~:text=Two%2Dthirds%20of%20parents%2C%2067,spending%20that%20much%20in%202022.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> a\u200b majority of Americans spend \u206320 percent or more of their \u200chousehold income on childcare<\/a>. Married couples would\u200c be wise to put pen to paper in order to determine if that second\u200c income offsets \u2064their \u200bdaycare costs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-05138f4ced031f2fa3640eac00f8024f fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-05138f4ced031f2fa3640eac00f8024f\"><\/div>\n<p>For decades now, dual-income families have been hailed in America as \u201cnecessary for basic survival.\u201d In reality, this lifestyle \u200bsimply boosted\u200c the GDP, which is why economists and tax collectors cheer for it.<\/p>\n<p>After all, when both parents work, they \u200chave to pay for \u2062child care. \u200bThey have to buy new work clothes. They spend money on \u2062commuting, as\u2063 well as on takeout and convenience \u200cfoods since no one\u2019s home long enough to cook. Even the coffee industry benefits. (Remember brewing coffee at home?)\u2064 All these transactions further swell the national income \u200caccounts.<\/p>\n<p>Married parents of young children who both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/government-unions-have-been-stealing-money-for-years-now-scotus-has-the-chance-to-intervene\/\" title=\"Government Unions Have Been Stealing Money For Years \u2014 Now, SCOTUS Has The Chance To Intervene\">work full-time<\/a> and year-round do indeed make us richer as a nation \u2014 but that doesn\u2019t mean the result is a net positive.<\/p>\n<p>For one thing, when a married couple who can\u200b afford to have a\u200b parent at home\u200c chooses not to, it puts the one-income family at a distinct \u200bdisadvantage, as those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/elementary-school-equity-presentation-insinuates-hispanic-students-struggle-in-education-system-because-they-face-deportation-threats\/\" title=\"Elementary School \u2018Equity\u2019 Presentation Insinuates Hispanic Students Struggle In Education System Because They Face \u2018Deportation Threats\u2019\">families struggle<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/what-if-the-answer-to-skyrocketing-childcare-costs-is-staying-home-with-your-kids\/\" title=\"Could Staying Home with Your Kids Solve Rising Childcare Costs?\">make ends meet due<\/a> to the rising costs brought on \u200dby a ballooning \u200bGDP. Second, daycare\u200d was originally intended to be a last-ditch option for low-income and single-parent families \u2014 not a way of life for married middle- and upper-middle-class families. \u200bThe result is that a \u200dshocking number \u2062of our nation\u2019s children are being raised by virtual strangers, rather\u2064 than by Mom and Dad.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-29ea51610301ba32d7db2f5f0f761f3e fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-29ea51610301ba32d7db2f5f0f761f3e\"><\/div>\n<p>This isn\u2019t just bad for children. \u2063It\u2019s \u2064also bad for mothers, many of whom\u200b discovered during pandemic lockdowns that they really can live on less. Indeed, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/09\/14\/whats-liberating-about-2-million-mothers-quitting-work-in-the-last-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2 million mothers traded their jobs for more time at home<\/a> during lockdowns and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/16\/business\/quitting-jobs-happiness.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">are significantly\u2062 happier<\/a> because \u200dof that decision. <\/p>\n<p>What\u200c if we \u2062built upon\u2062 this pandemic\u2063 lesson \u2064and rebuilt our economy by encouraging parents, mothers in particular, to stay home and invest in the early years, which we now know are critical to human development? Erica Komisar\u200d is a psychoanalyst who wrote the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ericakomisar.com\/being-there\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">book<\/a> on the science behind a mother\u2019s physical presence in her child\u2019s \u2062life. She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iwf.org\/2021\/10\/08\/a-clinical-social-workers-warnings-about-institutionalized-daycare-for-young-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explains<\/a> how the emotional security offered by a \u2063mother\u2019s presence is\u200d the foundation for mental health:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>What we\u2019ve done\u200c over the years is projected onto babies that they are like Teflon, that\u200c they are\u2063 born resilient,\u200c born tough, born able to deal \u2062with stress, and none of this is \u2063true. \u2026 Mothers are the emotional regulators for children from the very beginning. Their\u200b physical \u200cand emotional presence is critical in terms of soothing babies from moment to moment. \u200dIn that interaction \u200bof soothing the baby, you bring the\u200b baby\u2019s emotions back to\u2064 what we call emotional homeostasis. You\u2019re \u2064doing that all day long.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Not only is a mother at home best for the mental health of\u200d our nation\u2019s children,\u200d thus costing us less down \u2062the road, \u200cbut it also benefits\u2063 us financially \u200bin other ways.\u200c If\u200c mothers stay home when their children are young, and receive familial support and societal respect for\u2064 doing so, this would liberate our government from a massive spending crisis in this arena. As a nation, we simply cannot, financially \u200cor practically, accommodate every family that would rather use daycare than stay \u200chome with their \u2063children in the early years. Nor should we want to.<\/p>\n<p>In 2001, pediatrician T. Berry Brazelton and \u2063child psychiatrist Stanley I.\u2063 Greenspan wrote the groundbreaking \u2064book <em>The Irreducible Needs of Children: \u200dWhat Every Child \u200bMust Have to Grow, Learn, and Flourish. <\/em>Dr. Greenspan, who has since passed away, had a message for Americans\u200b even then.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only way to improve daycare,\u201d he said, \u201cis for fewer parents to use it.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-205ddc5401acfe933c2b95e1950a9417 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-205ddc5401acfe933c2b95e1950a9417\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Wall Street Journal reports that daycare costs in the US increased by 6% in July compared to the previous year, surpassing the 3.2% inflation rate.
