And\u2063 even in \u2064red states, there are more swing \u200bstate referendums that are coming up as we head into the elections.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite her <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/06\/future-gop-victories-hinge-on-positive-pro-life-messaging-not-ignoring-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">inaccurate framing<\/a> of\u200d the abortion issue, most \u200ccandidates spoke candidly about their support for pro-life\u200d policies. Many of their promises to shield the unborn, however, fell short of \u200dthe\u2062 national\u200b 15-week abortion ban \u2064that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/gallup-poll-shows-most-americans-would-vote-for-a-15-week-abortion-ban?utm_source=deployer&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_content=&#038;utm_campaign=Beltway+Confidential&#038;utm_term=Postup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more \u2064than half of Americans<\/a> \u200d want and pro-life organizations such as\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/sba-donald-trumps-states-only-position-unacceptable-pro-life-movement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SBA Pro-Life America<\/a> say they require from candidates who want their approval.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s where all nine qualifying candidates stand on abortion after Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<h2>Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis<\/h2>\n<p>DeSantis kicked off the \u200cabortion portion of the debate \u2064by condemning Democrats\u2019 radical\u2062 abortion-until-birth agenda but failed to commit to \u2064a\u2063 federal abortion ban.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2063 Republican\u2019s track record as a pro-life <em>governor<\/em> is indisputable. DeSantis\u2019 most \u2064recent pro-life\u2063 accomplishment was\u2063 a \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/2023\/04\/13\/governor-ron-desantis-signs-heartbeat-protection-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">heartbeat bill<\/a> that effectively \u200dbars abortion beyond six weeks gestation and offers more resources \u200bfor new parents.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis has \u2064repeatedly pledged that he\u2019ll also be \u201ca pro-life president.\u201d In a recent interview\u200b with Megyn Kelly, however, DeSantis only offered to \u201cbe a\u200b leader with the bully pulpit to help\u2064 local communities \u2063and states advance the cause of \u200blife\u201d instead of signing a federal \u2063ban.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RonDeSantis?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RonDeSantis<\/a> signed a six-week \u200babortion ban in Florida. Wade\u00a0\">leading pro-life organizations<\/a>, called DeSantis\u2019 position in July <a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/sba-ron-desantis-position-is-unacceptable-to-pro-life-movement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cunacceptable.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Entrepreneur Vivek \u2062Ramaswamy<\/h2>\n<p>Ramaswamy did not weigh in on abortion\u2064 during the \u200bdebate.<\/p>\n<p>In previous\u2064 comments, Ramaswamy said he\u200c is \u201cunapologetically pro-life.\u201d Yet,\u200c so far, he has <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/6263960\/abortion-ban-2024-republicans-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">refused to back<\/a> a national abortion\u200b ban like the one most\u200c Americans\u2064 support,\u2063 with\u2064 a campaign spokesman telling Time Magazine \u2063that \u201cAs a constitutional matter, he believes it\u2019s \u200ban issue for the states and not the federal government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The billionaire \u2063later claimed he is <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DNCWarRoom\/status\/1691265434576625664?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201copen-minded\u201d<\/a> towards a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/48-senators-vow-to-oppose-any-legislation-that-funds-abortion\/\" title=\"48 Senators Vow To Oppose Any Legislation That Funds Abortion\">federal pro-life policy<\/a> \u2063like the 15-week \u200cban\u200b proposed by Sen. \u200bLindsey \u2062Graham but has not openly \u2062backed it.<\/p>\n<h2>Former Vice President Mike Pence<\/h2>\n<p>Pence advocated from\u2063 his \u2063debate podium for a national restriction \u200don abortions beyond 15 weeks gestation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan\u2019t we have a minimum standard in every state \u200din the\u200d nation that says when a baby is capable\u2064 of feeling pain, an abortion\u2062 cannot be allowed? A 15-week ban is an idea\u200d whose time has come. It\u2019s supported by \u206370 percent of the American people,\u201d Pence\u2062 said.<\/p>\n<p>He also\u200c criticized his fellow candidates for \u200bfailing to\u200b support a \u2064national ban.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent address at Faith\u2062 &#038; Freedom Coalition\u2019s annual conference, Pence <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/evangelical-christians-abortion-trump-2024-primary-faf79a6938db554e18e378b84c286b71\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">encouraged<\/a> every GOP presidential candidate to join him\u200c to\u2064 \u201csupport\u2062 a ban on abortion before\u200b 15 weeks as \u2062a minimum \u2062nationwide standard.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>South Carolina \u2064Sen. Tim Scott<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot let \u200cstates like California, New York, and Illinois \u200bhave \u200babortions on demand up until\u200b the day of birth. That \u200dis immoral. It is unethical. It is wrong,\u201d Scott declared from his spot on the debate stage. \u201cWe must have a \u200dpresident\u200b of the United\u200b States who \u2062will advocate and \u2064fight for, at the minimum, a 15-week limit.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;We must solve \u200dthat issue with a 15 week limit [on abortion] \u2062at a\u2064 minimum.&#8221; \u2013 Sen. Tim\u200d Scott declines to say whether he supports \u200cSen.\u200b Lindsey\u2062 Graham&#8217;s proposed 15-week federal abortion \u200cban.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CHueyBurns?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CHueyBurns<\/a>: &#8220;If \u200byou were president, would\u2064 you\u200b advocate for\u200b federal limits?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Scott: &#8220;I&#8217;m\u2063 100% \u2062pro-life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Huey-Burns:\u2062 &#8220;So, yes?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Scott: &#8220;That&#8217;s not\u2062 what \u2062I\u2062 said.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SjXUP0gqIh\">pic.twitter.com\/SjXUP0gqIh<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Shortly after the CBS interview, he clarified that he \u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/tim-scott-republican-president-new-hampshire-abortion-fe4edf79d4a1aa0dc77b8625e8e14135#:~:text=Tim%20Scott%20of%20South%20Carolina,law%20if%20he%20became%20president.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">would<\/a> sign a 20-week abortion \u200cban.<\/p>\n<p>By July, Scott said he was \u2063fully onboard \u2062with the proposed 15-week limit.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Tim Scott embraces a 15 week federal abortion ban: \u201cI would encourage and fight\u2063 for a \u206415\u2062 week limit \u2062of \u2062abortion in our country\u2026I believe a 15 week limit is where the federal government should stop the radical left from pushing abortion up until the day of birth\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9P85pwdGzH\">pic.twitter.com\/9P85pwdGzH<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<h2>Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley<\/h2>\n<p>Haley claimed from the \u200cdebate stage \u200bto be\u200b \u201cunapologetically \u2063pro-life\u201d but repeated her belief that a federal abortion ban is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/05\/14\/nikki-haley-federal-abortion-ban-unrealistic-00096844\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cnot \u200brealistic.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen it comes to a \u2064federal \u2063ban, let\u2019s be\u2063 honest\u2063 with\u200c the American people \u200cand \u2063say it\u200c will take 60 Senate votes,\u200c It will take a majority of the House. So in order to do that, let\u2019s find consensus,\u201d Haley \u200csaid.\u200d \u201cCan\u2019t we all agree that \u200bwe should <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/whistleblower-new-hampshire-medical-society-pushed-doctors-to-sign-planned-parenthood-late-term-abortion-letter\/\" title=\"Whistleblower: New Hampshire Medical Society Pushed Doctors To Sign Planned Parenthood Late-Term Abortion Letter\">ban late-term abortions<\/a>?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She was\u2062 chastised onstage \u200bby Pence\u200b who \u2063said\u200b \u201cconsensus is the opposite of leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">At the first 2024 Republican primary presidential\u200b debate\u200b in Milwaukee, Nikki Haley and Mike \u2064Pence debated a federal\u2062 abortion ban. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TdjdnoBRDx\">pic.twitter.com\/TdjdnoBRDx<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Haley also recently\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/08\/nikki-haley-supports-breaking-the-law-to-make-taxpayers-pay-for-soldiers-abortions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">condemned<\/a> Sen.\u200b Tommy Tuberville\u2019s decision to slow-walk congressional approval of military promotions in\u2062 protest of the\u2062 Department of Defense\u2019s \u200bradical \u2064abortion agenda, which illegally uses taxpayer dollars to subsidize service members\u2019 \u2062time off and travel to get abortions.<\/p>\n<h2>Former\u2064 New Jersey Gov. Chris\u200b Christie<\/h2>\n<p>Christie remained relatively quiet about\u200c abortion law on Wednesday \u200cnight. He previously\u2063 stated\u2062 that the federal government \u201cshould not be involved\u201d in \u2064legislating on life \u2064\u201cunless and \u2063until there\u2019s a consensus around the country from \u200cthe\u2063 50 states making their own decisions about what\u2062 it\u2063 should be.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Chris Christie says at a CNN town \u2062hall that \u2064he\u200c believes each \u2064state should\u2062 decide\u200c its own abortion \u2062laws.<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether he would sign a bill\u2062 for a federal abortion ban as president if \u2064there was consensus, he said, &#8220;That&#8217;s a \u2062lot of ifs \u2064in there.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/q5tmMi3pCk\">https:\/\/t.co\/q5tmMi3pCk<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RptBECmc8l\">pic.twitter.com\/RptBECmc8l<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<h2>Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson<\/h2>\n<p>Hutchinson signed an abortion ban into law in\u200b Arkansas while he \u200bwas \u2063governor. Despite acknowledging that national \u200bpro-life legislation might face hurdles in Congress, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/04\/30\/politics\/asa-hutchinson-federal-abortion-ban-cnntv\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">agreed<\/a> to sign a federal abortion ban into law as \u2064president.<\/p>\n<p>On\u2064 the debate \u2064stage, Hutchinson confirmed\u200b his support for national abortion restrictions. He also\u200d corrected \u2064other\u2063 candidates\u2019 assertions that\u2062 only states should legislate\u200c on unborn life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s most likely going to be addressed in the states, but \u200bit\u2019s certainly fine for it\u200b to be \u2062addressed at the national level\u200b as well,\u201d \u200dHutchinson argued.<\/p>\n<h2>North \u2062Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum<\/h2>\n<p>Burgum \u200bsaid he\u2019s a \u201cpro-life governor of a very pro-life state\u201d but, during the debate, stood by his previous assertion \u200bthat \u201cwe should\u2062 not have a federal abortion \u200dban.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite signing an abortion ban into law in his own\u200c state, Burgum has repeatedly claimed \u2062he will not support a federal abortion ban if he is\u200c elected to \u2064the\u2063 White\u200b House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the decision that was\u2062 made \u200breturning the power to the states was the right one. And I think we\u2019re going to have \u2014 we \u2064have a lot of division\u200d on this issue in America. And what\u2019s right\u200b for \u2063North Dakota may not be right for another state\u2063 \u2026 \u2062the best\u2064 decisions \u2064are made locally,\u201d Burgum \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/doug-burgum-backed-abortion-ban-north-dakota-outlaw\/story?id=99943781\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> in June.<\/p>\n<h2>Former\u200d President Donald Trump<\/h2>\n<p>Trump qualified for the \u200bdebate but opted \u200cto spend his time in a sit-down\u200b interview\u200d with Tucker Carlson, who did not ask the Republican about\u200c his stance on unborn life.<\/p>\n<p>The arguable peak of Trump\u2019s first term was\u2063 his effort to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/god-made-the-decision-trump-weighs-in-on-supreme-court-abortion-ruling\/\" title=\"\u2018God Made The Decision\u2019: Trump Weighs In On Supreme Court Abortion Ruling\">appoint pro-life justices<\/a> and judges who went on to rule against abortion in\u2062 several\u2063 landmark cases.<\/p>\n<p>More\u2063 recently, however, Trump\u2063 was scolded by \u200dpro-life organizations and his \u2064fellow candidates for criticizing <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ron-desantis-donald-trump-abortion-florida-d536c67609030a445cab60329b919e75\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">heartbeat bills<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/sba-donald-trumps-states-only-position-unacceptable-pro-life-movement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">misrepresenting<\/a> \u2064 the\u2062 Supreme Court\u2019s landmark <em>Dobbs\u200d v.
