Sewage was seen flushed out on\u200b Los Angeles area beaches\u2063 and\u200d into the \u2063Pacific Ocean.<\/p>\n<p>According\u2062 to Soledad Urs\u00faa, \u2062a member of the Venice Neighborhood Council, hundreds of people were at Venice Beach on August 21, many with children playing steps\u2062 away from sewage on the beach.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s human feces, there&#8217;s needles, there&#8217;s crack pipes,\u200d and there&#8217;s drug paraphernalia,\u201d she told The Epoch Times. &#8220;The Santa Monica Bay is a gigantic toilet for L.A. But \u2064during \u200bheavy rainstorms, trash is washed up into storm drains,\u200d which lead directly to the ocean without any filtering.<\/p>\n<p>The Los \u2063Angeles\u200c County Department of Public Health issued an ocean water quality advisory on Sunday as\u200c a result\u2063 of high bacterial levels, asking residents to avoid swimming, surfing, and playing in nearly a dozen\u2063 spots, including Venice \u2062Beach and Santa Monica Pier, until\u2063 August 24.<\/p>\n<p>However, the agency \u200bdid not close any beaches\u2064 due to \u200cwater contamination, and\u200b no testing of waters has\u2063 been\u2063 done at this point, according to Peter\u2064 Gutierrez, \u2064a spokesperson for \u2064L.A. Public Health.<\/p>\n<p>Further down south, the California State Parks \u2062department declared the temporary shutdown of all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/minnesota-dept-of-natural-resources-concerned-with-bringing-more-non-white-visitors-to-state-parks\/\" title=\"Minnesota DNR aims to increase diversity in state parks.\">state \u2062parks<\/a> \u200cand beaches in San Diego and Orange counties \u2064on\u200c August\u200c 19 as a result\u2063 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tropical-storm-claudette-floods-parts-of-gulf-coast\/\" title=\"Tropical storm Claudette floods parts of Gulf Coast\">tropical storm<\/a>. (Courtesy of\u200d Soledad Urs\u00faa)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In videos and\u2063 images provided \u200cby Ms. Urs\u00faa, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/la-beaches-stay-open-despite-ocean-contamination-after-storm\/\" title=\"LA beaches remain open despite ocean contamination following storm.\">brown-colored sewage water<\/a> can be \u200bseen pouring out of storm drains and flowing into the\u200b ocean \u200dat\u2064 Venice Beach, \u2064with\u2064 various trash visible on the beach\u2014only feet\u2064 away from beachgoers.<\/p>\n<p>The trash, she \u2062said, is largely coming from the\u200d city\u2019s homeless encampments. She added that with increased drug use among the homeless, \u2064the now flushed-out sewage can also \u2062be highly toxic, posing\u200c a health hazard to people \u2063and animals.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWith these huge rains, even \u2064if there&#8217;s an encampment\u2063 30 miles away, all of the\u2063 debris goes \u200cinto the storm \u2062drains and comes right out onto the beach\u2014untreated,&#8221; she said. \u201cIt can cause significant \u2062illness, especially in young children,\u200b and I saw so many young children [recently].\u200c It is horrifying.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Additionally,\u200d Mrs. Urs\u00faa said that \u200bmore \u200cfamilies \u200bwith children\u200b were possibly at the beach after the \u200cstorm, as all schools in the \u200cLos Angeles Unified School District were\u2062 closed on Monday for damage assessment.<\/p>\n<p>Barry Coe, who formerly owned a recreational\u2064 vehicles business, said in a recent interview on EpochTV&#8217;s \u201cCalifornia Insider\u201d that a large number of RVs used by \u2064the\u200b homeless \u200cpopulation in the county are contributing to this toxic sewage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNine thousand gallons \u2062 [of sewage] a \u2064month are \u2064going into the wastewater system,\u201d Mr. \u2064Coe said, regarding the monthly wastewater of just \u200cthe 600 RVs \u200cbeing used by homeless persons in the \u2064Harbor Gateway neighborhood\u2014located in the far southern part of Los Angeles\u2014where\u200c he lives.<\/p>\n<p>More than 9,280 homeless people\u200b live in about 6,800 RVs\u200d in Los Angeles\u200d County, \u2062according to the 2023 point-in-time \u200ccount released \u2063last month\u2062 by the Los Angeles \u200dHomeless\u200d Services Authority.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mr. \u2064Urs\u00faa, warning signs were very limited \u2064in the beach area she visited, and many\u2064 residents likely \u2062weren\u2019t aware \u2064of the sewage\u2063 contamination.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A day after Tropical Storm Hilary caused heavy rainfall and flooding in Southern California, sewage was observed flowing onto Los Angeles beaches and into the Pacific Ocean.
