This decision\u200d comes after\u200b a \u200cprevious ruling earlier this year that deemed \u200cthe law\u200b unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In a 4-1\u2064 decision, the court \u200cstated that South Carolina&#8217;s constitutional protection against &#8220;unreasonable invasions of\u2062 privacy&#8221; does not \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/psaki-dodges-question-on-federal-funding-for-abortions\/\" title=\"Psaki dodges question on federal funding for abortions\">include abortion<\/a>. They argued that the state law is &#8220;within the zone of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/south-carolina-supreme-court-upholds-6-week-abortion-ban\/\" title=\"SC Supreme Court supports 6-week abortion ban.\">reasonable \u2064policy\u200c decisions rationally related<\/a> to the State&#8217;s interest in protecting the unborn.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Justice \u2063John Kittredge, in\u200b a 51-page \u200cdecision,\u2063 wrote, &#8220;The \u200clegislature has \u2064made a policy determination that, at a certain point in the pregnancy, a woman&#8217;s interest in autonomy and privacy\u200b doesn&#8217;t outweigh the interest of the unborn child to live.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The court ruled in favor of \u200ca \u2064revised version of \u200bthe Fetal Heartbeat and\u200c Protection from Abortion Act, which had been temporarily blocked earlier this year. The\u200c legislation was signed into law by Republican Governor Henry McMaster with overwhelming support from\u2063 state lawmakers.<\/p>\n<p>Governor McMaster expressed\u200c his satisfaction with the ruling, stating, &#8220;With this victory, we protect the \u2064lives of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/south-carolina-enacts-heartbeat-bill-after-contentious-floor-debate\/\" title=\"South Carolina Enacts Heartbeat Bill After Contentious Floor Debate\">countless unborn children<\/a>\u200b and reaffirm South Carolina&#8217;s place as one of the most pro-life \u2062states in America.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Controversial Law and Reactions<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/leftist-lawyers-try-to-protect-killing-the-unborn-by-calling-it-a-religion\/\" title=\"Leftist Lawyers Try To Protect Killing The Unborn By Calling It A Religion\">law prohibits abortions<\/a> after a fetal heartbeat has been detected, with \u200bexceptions for rape or\u2062 incest during\u2064 the first\u2064 12 weeks of pregnancy, medical emergencies, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/vulnerable-senate-dem-digs-in-on-abortion-gop-challengers-go-on-attack\/\" title=\"Vulnerable Senate Dem Digs In On Abortion, GOP Challengers Go On Attack\">fatal fetal anomalies<\/a>. Violators of the law\u200c could face fines of up to $10,000 and imprisonment for two \u200cyears.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, the Greenville Women&#8217;s Clinic, and two doctors filed a lawsuit against the state in response to the revised law. Jenny Black, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, criticized \u200dthe decision, stating that it puts &#8220;the dangerous politicization of South Carolina&#8217;s highest court on full display&#8221; and will cause \u2063&#8221;irreparable harm&#8221; to \u200bSouth\u2064 Carolinians.<\/p>\n<p>Abortion laws vary across states,\u2064 with more than a dozen states banning abortion \u200dthroughout different stages of pregnancy. \u2064However, certain restrictions in some \u2063states \u200care currently not in\u2063 effect \u200ddue \u2063to\u200c legal challenges. \u2062Since\u200b the landmark ruling of <em>Roe v.
